I have lead on some 18" AMG wheels and just curious as to the tire brand/model you all have on your 18" AMG wheels. Thanks!

I've always been extremely satisfied with the performance of my Continentals in all weather.

I was able to drive comfortably in heavy snow/rain and it performed extremely well at high speeds.

The only down side was that they bubbled up extremely easy from pot holes.

Pirelli - PZero Nero on both front and back. Tires so far are quiet as a church mouse and smooth as silk. I'll have to wait and see about winter handling orr purhcase snow treads.

Just picked up a 2011 E550 Sport Sedan and it came with Pirelli PZero's. There were two other E550 Sports on the lot that had Continentals. Looks like MB is using two different tires on this model. I like the looks of the Pirelli sidewalls better.

the cars I tested, cls550 and e550, both had pirelli......I always thought more of that name than continental......but I've learned continentals are pretty darn good, I guess I just always associate pirelli with fast performance racing tire's or something.......
but the dealer said it was unlikely they would be on my car.......guess I'll find out....I'm kind of expecting the conts....

The Michelin Primacy tires are very high end. Treadwear rating is 500, higher energy efficiency than the Pilot or Cont tires. They are also made with sunflower oil!

Yep, my Luxury has Michelins also. So how do the Continental ContiPro Contact tires compare - they are on the 18" AMG wheels I am probably going to buy.

Michelin MXM4 Primacy has a lower rolling resistance than the Conti's and have an asymmetrical tread design with rounded shoulders for more consistent cornering.

BTW, this is why the mpg on my 2011 Luxury E550 seems to be higher than what people have told me to expect. The tires on the 18" Sport wheels have a higher rolling resistance, hence lower mpg in an equivalent situation. The EPA mileage estimates do not take this into account. I've been consistently averaging between 27.5 and 28.5 on the interstate at 65+ mph

Interesting that MB would put tires on the 17" wheel package that are better at cornering than the tires they put on the 18" wheel package.

Its cost cutting. 18" cost much more than 17". Also you can't find Michelin Primacy in 245/40/18. I did have the Michelin Primacy on my last car and they are the quietest tires I have owned.

If you want an awesome tire get the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. They are probably the next best tire to the Primacy MXV4 buttttt they are so expensive. I bet you would be paying in the neighborhood of $1000 for all 4 shoes.

And this is based on what?

No flame, but cornering consistency depends on usage and what you do. A blanket statement like that makes assumptions you didn't list. I can think of situations where a squared shoulder, i.e. larger contact patch resulting in with no rolling onto the shoulder, would be beneficial and/or preferred.

The shoulder of this tire is a European rounded design, not square. A square shoulder tends to be sensitive in cornering if the road surface is irregular (at least that's what I've read).

How is your road noise on the highway for those of you with the Continentals on 18" wheels? Still pretty quiet?

A lot of cars come with MXM's as factory tire and I hear a lot of complaints about hydroplaning and winter driving. Another common occurence with MXM's is flat spotting FWIW.

I had Continental Contact Pro tires on my C300 which were very poor on snow, slippery in the wet. My C350 came with Michelin tires which had good performance in the same conditions and wore like iron.

I have not experienced any sign of flat spotting on the MXM4 tires currently installed on my car. They are also very quiet at speed.

One last question. Can someone advise recommended tire pressures for those with 18" staggered AMG wheels? Inside of driver side door.

Yes, I know as I stated. I have 17" wheels and putting on the staggered AMG 18" wheels; therefore, my sticker only has tire pressures for 17" wheels. I need the recommended pressures for the staggered 18" AMG wheels. Thanks!
