rear ended by drunk driver.
Rear ended by drunk driver Monday night(Cadillac SRX), she was arrested. My mom was driving; was stopped at a stoplight when it happened, thank god she was okay, just a little shaken up and sore now. Pushed our car into the Honda in front of her. SOS did its job, police came immediately! Body shop hasn't dismantled the car yet to see if there's any serious damage. Not quite sure why the drivers seatback popped off, maybe because of neck-pro?

Oouch, it really is hard to see those pictures. I am glad the MB kept your family safe. You can now be included in those MB commericial about how your MB knew what to do in an accident.

Well, no doubt the W212 is probably the safest car of all time right now. M-B doesn't sleep on advancing every aspect of safety (usually, at least, and definitely not in this case) in even a span of a year or two. Case in point, the W212 uses more high strength, and ultra high strength steels than the W221 S-Class, and uses the latest tech available since that 3 years ago as well.
Hopefully they total that thing, that's a lot of damage. With M-B repair costs, I would be shocked if they attempt to fix it.
Hopefully if it's a Lease, you don't have too large a downpayment on it.

We also had a 2000 E320 years ago that was totaled by a red-light runner, and no one was injured. These cars are very, very safe!!

Ouch!!! Sorry to hear about your incident, glad to hear everyone is ok. Looking at those heardrests, is that included on all 'E' classes? How does it work - do they move forward suddenly in an accident??

Wow, I'm glad you are all alright. I would definitely fight to get that car totaled, especially if you own it you will take a huge hit when you try to sell it if it is repaired. Does Cali have laws where you can get claims for diminished value from the person responsible?

Get it totaled.
Back in 2001, I had similar accident in NYC, where drunk driver heat my rear and I hit the big highway sign in the parkway. I ended up getting repaired because I had to leave out of country for business trip and I knew a body shop that was good at repair. When I came back from the trip, car looked perfect in outside but it was not in performance. I had rattles and cracks everywhere after about 3 month. Bodyshop tried to fix but it was everywhere.
So I ended up selling car and buying another. Certainly I lost at least 3~4k because of the accident, and I was so angry. So I learned lesson. If someone hit you, you go for totaled and get new car if the damage is more than bumper replace. For your case, they will check your rear frame and I am sure they pushed in, so that is good way of start to fight. Tell them that they can't straight frame perfectly like the new car. Also rear quarter pannel should be replaced. This will cause the more gaps or less gaps between rear door and pannel, or I should say frame, then this will cause rattles.
No matter how the bodyshop repairs, your trunk will not be smooth as before.
SO my last tip.!!!!
GET replaced.
I am glad you did not get hurt. Back in 2001, I was driving M3 and I was fine.

Looks totaled to me... I would not want it back after an accident like that.... Looks like all the saftey systems performed as they should.
