3 spoke steering wheel.

Does anyone know if the 3 spoke sport steering wheel from the 212 fits the sport package 212 that has the 4 spoke steering wheel? I would think they would fit but I need comfirmation. My Dealer is telling me no. He owes me a steering wheel but I think he's trying to get out of it by saying it doesnt fit.

I'd like comfirmation before I go and rip him a new one.

Thanks in advance.

It will fit, but there are several variations of the 4-spoke steering wheel:

- basic
- basic with heat
- basic with heat and lane keeping assist
- basic with lane keeping assist

The 3 spoke wheel does not work with heat nor with lane keeping assist. Thus if you have either of these features in your car, you cannot swap (or perhaps you can but the features won't work, might give error codes, etc).

I believe I have lane assist but I doubt I have heat. So the 3 spoke wheel doesn't have those features?

I have the lane assist and the 3 spoke sport steering wheel. It all came factory... If you mean lane assist your talking about that little coffee mug in the dash correct? If so, I have both..

The coffee mug indicates that ATTENTION ASSIST is active.

I have that feature as well. I have the coffee cup on in my cluster. I'm trying to find out if I can use that streeing wheel or not. How is it that the attention assist being has to do with different steering wheel styles. If that feature is programed for the car wouldnt every steering wheel work?? Sorry I'm just trying to get a soild answer before I go back to the dealer and make him get me that wheel..

YYZ-E55 11-04-2010 11:18 AM

ATTENTION ASSIST has nothing to do with the steering wheel.

You're on your own for figuring out what options your car does/doesn't have. Look at your build sheet/bill of sale!

If it doesn't fit your car then sell it to me. I'm interested.

Well I know what my car has. I'm wondering if the wheel has any effect on anything other then its normal functions.

I was promised the 3 spoke wheel but didnt get it because they claim it didnt fit. I want to be able to prove to the idiot dealer that it doest fit if in fact it fits so thats why I'm here asking.

The 3-spoke steering wheel will not work with Lane Keeping Assist. Can you post your window sticker so we can see what options you have?

DoubleA 11-04-2010 05:02 PM

Let me look for the sticker and scan it. I just want to see if the dealer is trying to get over on me. I dont trust him.

Thanks.

You could also just snap a cell phone pic of all the way on the right where it lists all the options. That would help us tell you what your car has/doesn't have.

In sweden the 3-spoke steering wheel is included in the AMG-package. The details for the package states that if you have lane assist you won't get the 3-spoke wheel.

So I think your dealer is telling you the truth. But he should have known this before he made you this promise.

DoubleA 11-05-2010 09:32 AM

Well if he is telling me the truth then he should not not made me that deal.

With that said maybe I can try and get something else out of him since he still didnt live up to his end of the deal.

silberrosa 11-05-2010 12:16 PM

Since you are in the USA, Lane Keeping assist will be in combination with distronic plus and blind spot assist (Driver Assistance Package). So, do you have these features as well? If you do, the 3 spoke steering wheel is absolutely not possible with you car. If you do not, then it is possible. Good Luck.

Sadly some sales people will promise you anything to close the deal. They know that most people will settle for what they have once the car is in front of them all ready to go. "Oh, the prep team must have forgot", or "the part is on back order", or "come in to see me next week and I'll set it up", or the classic "I did that for another customer a few weeks ago but now they're telling me you can't anymore". It all adds up to you not getting what was promised. Most people will grumble and drive away. "I'm never dealing with that jerk again", but they don't care cause they won't be there in 3 years or more when you are in the market for another new car.

I'm sorry..... do I sound cynical? :D

Did you figure out yet what options your car has? It will be an easy question/answer once we know how it is built.

Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist both vibrate the steering wheel when activated. The vibrating mechanism is part of the four spoke steering wheel but is not available with the three spoke steering wheel. Thus, if you have the Driver Assist Package, you cannot get the three spoke wheel.
I have the four spoke wheel with Driver Assist and the special order heat and am very happy with it.

DoubleA 11-09-2010 11:50 AM

Well I do have the lane assist feature so I guess I'm out of luck with the 3 spoke wheel deal. Its OK.

I hit him up for free weather rubber mats. At least I'll get something I need and not have to spend money on it. Thanks for all you input.

lol, that's awesome, I love working out a bargain!:y

dealers are expecting customers to get upset, about many things but the way I see it, I can use that to my advantage.........and NOT get upset, and just get myself some 'extras',:D whatever they may be......lol

DoubleA 11-10-2010 04:34 PM

Exactly. I wasnt upset. I just wanted to get what was coming to me and if not the exact piece, something else, but I'm gonna try and get my money's worth... I hope he didnt expect me to just walk away like ok no steering wheel, oh well.. NOT..

silberrosa 11-11-2010 08:50 AM

Looks like it worked out for the best. The all-weather mats are a really helpful addition and will keep the inside very nice. Good luck.

This is a little off topic, but is the 3-spoke sport steering wheel thicker than the standard wheel. I know the sport wheel has a different shape, flat at the bottom and thumb notches, but wasn't sure if the rim was thicker or not. Thanks for any help!

mazin 02-05-2011 03:09 PM
