Keyless Go Question (2011 E550+P2)

Keyless Go Question (2011 E550+P2)
I noticed something that looks odd to me:
1. If I walk to my locked and parked car (key in pocket) and touch the door handle then it unlocks immediately
2. When I stop the car, park it, exit it and then touch the door handle it does not lock (or respond) right away. It seems I have to "rub it" for a while to make it lock. It behaves the same if I wait a bit (10 sec) after I close the door, stand next to it and then touch the handle.
That seems annoying. Anyone seeing this? Since it unlocks right away then it cannot be a "sensing" issue. It seems to be a software issue or something that needs to be programmed differently, unsure. Thanks.

It's funny that my wife has that problem -- she cannot lock my car probably 80% of the time. Without me moving at all (I have the key), my 4-year old daughter can reach up and lock it for her each and every time -- same sensor. It never fails to lock for me, no matter which sensor I use.
I wonder if moisturizers or something similar might affect it?

Well, I have to rub it (does not seem to matter if I wait). It's just that a simple touch is needed to unlock but a rub (3 sec to 8 sec) seems required to lock it.

So help me understand. If you have keyless go (I did not get it because I don't trust it - keyless go and lack of round fog lights is why I decided against P2) and you shut car off and exit the car, the car won't lock itself automatically? It doesn't sense that the keyless go 'card' has 'exited' the car?

My 2011 E550 does not have that problem. It locks as soon as I touch the sensor on the door knob.
My 2008 S550 was not as responsive. Sometimes I would have to try several times to get it to lock, sometimes it would work the first time.

Try switching to your other key, I did and it seems to work better, maybe a battery issue and yes, you do hear air release from the airmatic

I have a 2010 E350 but I don't have that problem. I hardly even have to touch the sensor and it locks. Time to put the smack down on your E550. I'd be pissed.

One thing I forgot about: When I first bought my car, I had trouble getting the car to lock. Mentioned it to the salesperson when I was there for another reason. He pointed out that the way I was doing it had my other fingers near the unlock sensor -- this apparently confused the car, and it would do nothing. Since then, I've done it so just one finger is extended, and I have had zero (absolutely zero) problems.
I just thought I'd mention this. I doubt it is the problem -- it is certainly not my wife's problem as I described above -- but one never knows.

I have no issues like described it always locks when a so much as go near the outer handle.
I did notice that with the back doors, because of the angle of the handle, I sometimes seem to hit "lock" before it unlocks accidentally.

It senses the key has left the car or it would refuse to lock but the user is still required to tell the car to lock by touching the outside of the handle (with the back of the hand, for example). It's not designed to just lock as you walk away. Similarly, it doesn't unlock as you approach but when you touch the inside of the handle as you naturally would by grabbing it.

Mine seems to work fine. The only annoying thing with the keyless go for me is when I'm washing the car with the key in my pocket or nearby the water spray from the hose constantly locks and unlocks the car when the handles are hit, so end up leaving key at a far enough distance and hope I dont forget where I left it.

All right, I had been using the locking feature inappropriately by touching both the outer and inner handle at the same time (closed hand on handle).
The funny thing is that neither the car salesman nor the MB service advisor showed me how to use it properly. The MB service advisor explained that there was a "delay" and that was expected...
Obviously, as soon as I touch the outer part of the handle the car locks right away. So it works fine. And yes I can still lock/unlock at a distance using the remote. However, I don't know if I can set the car to auto-lock itself as I exit the car and walk away, I could not find anything in the manual regarding that.

The way it was explained to me was that to lock the car just touch the little rectangle found on the handle. At first I kept on grabbing the handle and touching the rectangle with my thumb and of course the car would not lock. Now I just poke at it with my index finger and no problems.

Keyless go
I've actually had the car lock/unlock itself while I am washing it - both with the sponge and with just the stream of water from the hose. Once in a while I have the same issue where it will lock quickly, but then the unlock will take a few seconds or touches to happen.
