Thanks! I think I do too. I'm a little bit on the fence though.

I like the look, but only from the outside. I prefer my ride to me more smooth and I've ridden in an MB with 20's and it was too rough for me.

Also, do the potholes seem to eat the 20's right up?

Drop with wheels

Looks fine to me. If you still wanted the front end raised a bit, you might want to consider new bushings that go between the springs instead of a new set of springs.

Thank you sir! Actually the place that test fitted the wheels recommended that. We put one in on the one side only and it didn't seem to make a difference. I think I would either need two per side or a little thicker bushing. I was amazed at how much the larger wheels & tires raised the car. I obviously knew the 2" bigger rim would be taller, but thought the lower profile tire would wash it out. It was still 3/4" taller than with the stock wheels and tires. Front tires on those rims were tucked more than I would prefer. They were 35's, so I would probably go with 30's all the way around and put the bushings in.

Fortunately here in Arizona our roads are very good so potholes really aren't an issue.

If you do not mind me asking, just want to get confirmation on above.

Are you running 245/35-20 at all for corners (this is an 1" more than sock upfront a bit more than that in the back)? No rubbing at all with this size? What is the wheels offset?

If you're palnning to use 30 aspetc tires at all corners, I would use 255/30-20 instead of 245/30-20. This will be almost stock hight, while giving you a bit more rubber under your wheels.

One more question. Since I assume your car is RWD and not 4matic, why you chose same size front/rear instead of staggard fitment?

First off, this was a test fit only and were wheels just taken off of a W211 E63. I am now planning to buy the wheels through a vendor and put on new tires with the size of my choice.

What was fitted was 20X8.5 front & 9.5 rear with 245/35 in front and 275/30 in the rear, Continental Extreme Contact DWS. Maybe I am the one confused, but isnt the 35 & 30 the height of the tire? This is why I was planning to do 30 for the front since the 35 were slightly touching the round plate at the bottom of the springs. Other than that, no rubbing inside the wheel well. These wheels are OEM S class wheels with a 43 offset.

Stock is 35/40 with 18"
30/35 tires with 19" would give you about the same (slightly larger) height or diameter as stock
With 20's may need 25/30

Thanks for your reply.

One more question. 245/35-20 upfront were touching/rubbing before or after you lowered your car with lowering springs?

Looks good, but not the perfect wheel/wheel gap/body balance for me personally (I think cars look goofy with more wheel mass than actual car mass, not saying that totally applies here though). IMO some 19's and a very slight less drop (at least on the front) would be ideal (to my personal tastes).

The 35's were touching after it was lowered, but the round metal piece it was rubbing on at the bottom of the springs is stationary and don't think it matters whether lowered or not...I think. I think it is attached to the control arm or something and will move up and down with the wheel. Someone else probably knows a lot more about than me.

I agree it needs a little fine tuning, but I think I like the overall look. The front tires need to be a little lower and the front needs to come up just a hair. I think a 30 profile front and spring boosters for about a 1/2"-3/4" raise will make it just about perfect in my eyes. The wheels kind of take over in the pictures, but actually look very proportioned in person.

Congrats on the new E! Wheels aren't my favorite but that's my opinion. What you like goes on your car. Have fun driving your new Benz

I really like the contrast of the 3 different interior colors and think the drop & wheels will give a nice clean modded but not modded OEM look. Does that make since!

I had springs & wheels purchased before I signed on the car. H&R's go on tomorrow and hopefully the 20" AMG split spoke replicas will be here soon as well. Tint goes on Saturday and will be ordering clear side markers and rear spoiler soon. I will post the play by play as these parts go on.
so your post says P1 but your car has P2 LED "fog" or "daytime running light" in the lowered photos. 685 for the P2 car is a really nice deal.

Is that the same car in the three series of photos?

In 2011 they started putting the daytime LED's as standard on P1 cars as well. So it's still a P1.

Yeah, I understand.

I think MBUSA dropped the ball with how to option the W212's. They had it GREAT with the pre-facelift W211, with all the different variations.

Now, they over saturate the Sport model (for Free, at that), and they don't give owners, with even weaker HALOGEN headlights, the option for fog-lights? WTF? The LED's are nice and fancy and trendy, but they should be kept as a "form over function" option, for those who don't need the double rounds. Also, keeping the double rounds around, allows for people who even like the looks of those, to opt for them.

I just think MBUSA is being lazy with this car. So many variations, and options, and choices in EU, but out here, we have very minimal differentiations, etc.

Photo Shop

Can anyone photo shop these Forged Star wheels from the Audi to my car pic? Preferably the side view pic on the bottom of page one after the springs were installed. I would place it on this post, but they system won't let me post the same pic twice. Thanks to anyone who can help! This could actually help many, because this is a real good looking wheel at a great price!

Spring Boosters

I am now happy with my H&R's springs. After test fitting the 20" AMG S63 wheels, I realized the overall height will be up a little more than an inch once I finalize which wheel. So that alone took away some stress of thinking I would be driving around looking silly in a low rider. Might be for some people, but just not for me in this car. My other complaint was that the front was slightly too low and had too much of a forward rake. Today I installed 4 spring boosters, 2 on each side, and it brought the front up a little more than a 1/4" and actually softened up the ride and took away any minor bottoming out I felt occasionally. These cost $8 for all 4 and took about 5 minutes to jack up the side high enough to get your arm in between the wheel and well and just pop them in, one forward one back.

I'm not real good at this so I stuck to the easier side-profile pic from the top of the page (I know you wanted the pic from the bottom, sorry).

Here's my lousy attempt....

piper,

I'm still a bit confused with your AMG S63 wheels/tires "test" fitment.

A. Were these W221 S63 AMG wheels that were fitted to W212 E63 AMG car with 245/35-20 front and 275/30-20 rear tires that you tried on your car

or

B. were they taken off S63 car (not E63) directly? The reason I'm asking is that if they were taken off S63 car, then they could not have been fitted with tire sizes as stated above. S class front tires are 255/35-20 and rear are 275/35-20 or 285/30-20.

I think the answer is A. above, but I'm hoping that it is B., as I would have loved to be able to fit 245/35-20 on the front of stock hight W212.

Thanks.
