GPS Antenna Problem on W212 E Class

I have an intermittent GPS fault - looses all satellite guidance for a few hours or sometimes days, then recovers. I took the car to my local dealers and they returned it saying no fault found. It worked well for about a week, now the problem has reoccured.

A bit of digging on this forum and I found how to enter engineering mode on my Comand. The historical error log shows:

DTC94d6 FAULT:GPS ant. shortcut

Looks like an antenna short-circuit. Some questions:

Are there any known common wiring faults on the W212?
What path does the GPS antenna wire take - I assume the antenna in in the roof aerial?
Would my dealer have checked the Comand error log - I'm trying to work out if they were blagging or genuinely thought there was no fault.
Finally, if I admit to looking at the error log myself is there likely to be any claim that I have voided my warranty? The car is 12 months old.

Thanks..

I cannot imagine you have done anything to void your warranty.

I would contact them and tell them what you have found and demand a response - in writing if they are not helpful verbally.

If that fails I would - have in the past - had a good response from writing to the National M-B Service In Australia - I am sure UK will have a similar complaints setup.

Other than that the other recourse that worked for me some years ago when I had an intermittent fault with the Comand in my then new 2003 W211 E320 was was to turn up to the dealer every time it gave trouble and one day it continued doing it until I got there. I didn't turn Off the car, left it running and said "Look at this" . It was an overheating gateway that was apparently a well known fault at the time and was fixed very quickly after that.

I feel your frustration.

My c207 had the same problem. It happened within 6 mos of owning the car. I took it back and they replaced the GPS antenna. Since then it has been trouble free. I hope they don't give you any trouble.

Thanks for your thoughts - I'll take it back to the dealers next week and have another go.
