Automatic trunk opener caused damage...:(

This happened 3 times now. Trunk key was pressed unwanted by sitting on the key?? Last time the car was unfortunately too close to a garage door. Paint chip and scratch as evidence. Grrrrrrrrr

Is there a way to de-activate that f****g button??

Pull your car a little further in the garage.

Sounds to me like an inept owner rather than a design flaw.

Get yourself a leather key housing from ebay or a vendor here. It will give you that padding that may avoid that incident next time.

"Mercedes sucks! When I sit on the key with the trunk-open button, my a$$ cheeks have the authorization to activate it, this is unacceptable!"

Oh well, we all make mistakes.

it happened to me very 1st day of brand new car. I don't have auto trunk open option but my son pushed trunk release button accidentally. Of course, the tunk popped open and left a mark. haha What a life! After that I park my car a little further.

There is no pleasing a Mercedes owner... even when things work the way they are supposed to work MB owners still complain.

I opened the trunk with the key fob of my dodge Charger a few years ago accidentally and then up and left on a 3 week trip. I came home to a dead battery because the trunk and interior lights come on when the trunk is open. Since that day I take precaution with my key fob. I learned this after one experience maybe after three times and the damage to your car you have now learned your valuable lesson.

Good luck, be careful and enjoy the car.

When I have my cars keys in my pocket while washing the car, the damn Keyless Go activates the unlock and lock like crazy when I'm cleaning around the handles. What a POS. THe car should understand that I'm just trying to wash it!

get it repaired or get a button lock so that the press on the button doesn't initiate the opening of the trunk when it's in your pocket.

Put the key inside the car and it won't be locking/unlocking the doors. It won't lock if key is inside. If you don't trust this take the little "blade" off of the key and keep that in your pocket while the key is inside. In case for some weird reason doors would lock the key inside you can open the driver's door with the "blade".

To all of you who replied, you all need to be a little more sensitive. When this happened to my GL, I got very pissed and I didn't want jokes.

Although this post is old, here is some real advice:
There's no way to deactivate it...the same thing happened on my GL, but the paint went past the clear coat. Dealer said they would repaint the whole tail gate. Bullsh*t...all they did was paint over the scratch so now I can only see it at certain angles.

To prevent it, park your car outside (Now I park my GL outside and my S in the garage) or put padding on the garage doors so it won't scrape. You can also try limiting the tail gate opener by holding down the button until you hear a tone. That way, the tail gate will only open to a certain height. You may be wondering, "But what happens when I need to open it all the way?" Simple: After the tail gate opens to the preset height, hold the trunk button again. It'll open all the way.

...when I am faced with a wall and I press the accelerator the car accelerates and hits the wall causing damage to the front end. What a POS this car is! I've doe this 3 times now and each time I hit the wall the car gets damaged. It's the fault of MB or the idiot who built the wall.

This thread does nothing but illustrate what is wrong with society these days. There is absolutely no personal responsibility for one's actions whatsoever. It is always someone else's fault. If I open the trunk lid in a low garage and damage my trunk lit, it is my fault. period. Oh and maybe after the first time I learn to be more careful.

A single drop of super glue should disable that button. A sharp blow to the back of the head should fix the problem.

and BTW unless I am mistaken, you can actually limit the height the trunk lid opens to:

Next time don't pay extra for that option?

It's like...

Car drove straight into a brick wall and caused damage...
