Talking Top Speed?

Heads, hello.........

after my 'distinguished' break from the forum.......,yeah.....on PROBATION for being a bad boy with a potty mouth............

Was wondering what your top speed has been thus far?
Anyone met they're governor yet?? haha........
Today I went 101, but that's the fastest so far.........
I was alone......wouldn't ever drive that fast with my family.....

keep on rockin' heads............................................

I haven't met the Gov yet but I did meet it in my W211 (same engine). I will admit that I accidentally went over 100 with my family in the W212, I was on the highway and I accelerated to pass another car I looked down and I was doing 105.
I didn't do it deliberately, I didn't notice/feel like I was excessively speeding it felt like I was still doing 60.
The suspension and engine feels the same at 100 as it does at 60 or 30.

I love the car.

I went 115mph over the weekend but didn't want to go any faster because I only have 1100 miles on the car and didn't feel like burning gas but it felt good didn't feel like it was straining

I went 215 km/h in germany on a renter W212, which is 134 MPH. It would have gone faster but traffic would not allow. I don't think they have governor in Germany cars.

It is amazing how these vehicles go fast but don't feel like it. Audi and BMW are the same way.

The C200 CDI 2.2 Litre turbodiesel station wagon I rented in Germany this summer cruised smoothly on the autobahn for long stretches at 110MPH and reached 125MPH (~200KPH) without fuss. Acceleration was never lacking at any speed - though I wasn't racing. No governor that I found.

Did the governor limit you to Mach 2?

I thought the governor was at 130mph in the us. Think I read it in c&d. I've been into the mid 120s once. Car was pulling amazingly hard still and smooth as could be. . Makes me wonder what the aerodynamic limit on the car is if it had no governor andD appropriate tires.

And to save someone the keystrokes....yes I realize that was dangerous and childish

Ah, the good ole' days of the Concorde flying over my house. Just think, if you installed a SprintBooster it would have reached Mach 2 so much faster

I believe for RWD the governor kicks in at 155MPH and for 4matics at 130MPH. Of course I don't have first hand experience with this since I rarely venture into triple digits.

yes, the triple digit isn't worth visiting considering the end result if one is 'caught'.....
I personally feel there should be ZERO driving rules.......kind of like Mexico, lol

I have a CLS and I've yet to get a custom tune to remove the governor but I'm not going to lie, I have this long land-bridge by my house and I hit 135 MPH almost daily. Safe? Probably not. Fun? Of course

Very true, I can remember doing 100 MPH with my dad is his Vette when I was maybe an early teen and I thought that was ridiculously fast and I was scared out of my mind, but you can't feel much safer doing 135 MPH than in a MB, Audi, or BMW. And it truly doesn't feel like 135 either. I had my buddy in the car and he kept saying he was amazed at the smoothness of the ride so I covered the gauge (at least from his eyes) and asked him how fast he thought we were going. He said "60ish?" when in fact I was doing 96. Incredible..

You lucky, lucky man. I'm happy if I can keep a steady pace of 70-75 on my way home because of traffic. I live in Jersey and there really isn't a good opportunity to open her up because of either traffic or because of the appalling roads we have here. I go to Germany to visit family every year and I just love driving there. The roads are much better kept and the car has some room to stretch its legs on the autobahns. One of the reasons why I don't bother with an AMG is because I would never be able to utilize the power the car has. Maybe if I lived somewhere near a desert

Had to do a really long day trip up through some desolate areas in Central California recently. Despite some decent high speeds, it was a very slow sojourn overall. Now that I look more closely, I wonder why I chose to snap this pic while driving. Shameful!

I understand according to the manual Oz cars are speed limited to 210 Km/hr ( 130 mph )is this the same with US models?

I am sure it is not difficult to get the limiter removed but it does mean that legally you do not have to pay for high speed rated tyres unless you wish.

Bill

I live in a rural area with some nice straight open roads so not too hard to peg the 550. That motor has soo much more left in it I wonder what It would really do. I bet 160+.

That sounds more like the top speed for the E63 AMG when you opt for the performance package which comes with the extended speed limiter.
