E550 black&ash

Hi all-
Im new here.
My wife and I gave each other MBs for Christmas. I got her a GL350 and she got me a E550. I got chose the designo color Platinum Black Metallic with the black and ash interior with the walnut trim. Anybody have pics of the black and ash interior?

Also, is the message seat wora good option?

Thanks. I look forward to participating in discussions here and posting pics of our gifts after arrival and pick up.

And all I got were sweat socks!! Just kidding. I actually bought myself an e550 4matic with p2, distronic and the driver dynamic seat in indium grey. I saw a e350 in platinum black at my dealership. It is a stunning color! I have a 2001 e55 in obsidian black and platinum is much nicer,IMO. The driver dynamic seat with massage and the dynamic cornering bolsters is great! You'll love it. Regards. Ned.

You will not regret the dynamic seat option. I cant wait to see pics of the designo paint.

Thanks for your responses.

Ngerstmen- I bet they were really nice socks!!

What I'm concerned is how the ash and black will look together. Is the ash too light?

I also opted to not get the pano, just a regular sunroof. I have one on my current Audi and don't use it much. Also I'm folically challenged and don't need any extra sunlight or heat on the dome. If you know what I mean.

I wouldn't have gotten the pan roof if it wasn't already there. As a matter of fact, I would prefer no sunroof. Less weight and less noise and better structural integrity. It's tough to find them in the dealerships without even the pan roof. I think that the ash will look nice. There are some Designo seat and interior option that are gorgeous as well but costly. My seats are almond. In general I'm not overly thrilled with the standard colr options. There just ok. Black is always nice but hot in summer. The car is great, the fit and finish and build quality super and that's the most important thing. But if you are ordering from the factory, you have this one chance to get it just the way you want it. Most buyers don't do it that way.Regards. Ned.

We're moving back to NJ after a 15 year stint in Puerto Rico. So we ordered the vehicles with a spring delivery. I'm getting antsy with anticipation, though.

Don't want to give you any angst, but are you aware that there may be completely new engines for the 2012 model year. There coming soon.Just thought you should know. Regards. Ned.

Thanks for the heads up.

Mind you I bought mine in December with that knowledge! The new engines will have more power and better fuel economy. Regards. Ned.

Not a great photo as the seats look a lot lighter than they really are:

I have black ash wood trim and I think the interior looks awesome - really sporty. My wife's ML also has black/ash interior but with walnut trim and it looks really good as well, much sportier than her previous ML with all beige interior...

Chuck- Well that just looks awesome. Now I can sleep at night.
Mucho Thanks!
Do you have any photos of the backseat, footwells and dash? And maybe from the front through the windshield. If not readily available, no problem.
Again, thankyou.

I'll try and get some more pics up this weekend including some shots of the ML's interior so you can see the walnut trim.

I think you did good. I'd rather have a NA motor anyday over a turbo unless it was some significant differences which it doesn't look like it will be that way. I would of waited for the V6 but get the 550 now.

Have you considered the black ash wood trim vs brown walnut?

Congrats

I called the dealer to see if they could add the seat upgrade at this time and change the trim to the black ash. Chuck's pics are beautiful!

Also, for those interested, I got the luxury rather than the sport. The reason I did this is because I'm leaving a 2006 Audi A6 4.2 (118,500 miles)with 18" wheels in Puerto Rico and I've changed enough tires in my time. The road in Nj are no better than they are here in PR. And I'm not that aggresive a driver anyway.

The interior pics you see in this thread are of a sport. The luxury interior is monochromatic whereas the sport has a black dash, carpet, headliner, and upper and lower door trim. Only the seats and the center insert on the doors are the selected (ash in this case) color. The luxury will be all ash. So, you will not have the contrast you see in the picture posted in this thread.

You may already know this, but I would not want someone to make a decision based on an incorrect assumption.

Anything's available for a price.

My wife's ML, via special order, has a black headliner, dash, carpet, and door trim so aside from the walnut wood trim (and ventilated seats ), it's interior is identical to my E.

Okay, just took the ML for a spin and it's not exactly the same - the bottom half of the dash is gray and so is a majority of the door panels.

You'll love the black wood with that combo; sometimes you may have to add the appearance pkg or something else in order to get the black ash...

I have the e550 sport. The e550 does have the two setting adjustable airmatic suspension, with a sport and comfort setting. The sport setting is surprisingly civil even on not great roads. The comfort setting is just a little softer and removes some roughness on bad roads. The handling is pretty good. I like you was thinking that I might be better off with the luxury and 17 inch rims. But I needed the car because of circumstances and a after test driving the sport concluded that it was more than acceptable on mediocre roads. I believe that the only ride difference between the sport and luxury is the 17 versus 18 inch rims. I never got a chance to drive an e550 luxury and can't find anyone on the forum who has either! Regards. Ned.

More pics

Here are some more pics of my E's interior. Wife had to go into the office this morning so I don't have access to the ML but I'll still try to get some shots of it up this weekend.

Is that almond? It looks so light in these pics. I love the seat design of the Leather cars with the truly-classic-M-B vertical stripes, very comfy look.

My interior is also Almond, but it has the Burl wood, which changes the character of the interior a lot (I'm a sucker for Burl/Almond).
