Telephone Cradle for W212's

I assume there is no cradle available for the W212's. My phone is supported via BT but I assume I'll need to charge it with a charger for either 12V or 115V.

I just charge my HTC phone the old fashion way ... with a 12v charger.

Have you tried using the USB in the glovebox?

I haven't got my car yet so I'm not familiar with how USB would work.

Right now I have the capability to charge the phone with either 115V or 12V and I could do that.

I guess the answer to my question is that there are no longer phone cradles available for the latest E-Class. I can understand why there isn't since there are so many phones supported.

I'm planning on getting a holder like this for my E350, I'm just looking for a nice looking one.

I just realized that my phone has a Mini USB port so I'm go to go.

they gave me the apple one and said the USB one would be over a hundred dollars.
So I got a Mini cigarette lighter usb adapter like this one: http://www.sourcingmap.com/mini-ciga...aign=usfroogle from a truckstop and stuck it in the lighter jack behind the armrest box and plugged in my usb wire for an android phone.

The 2011 COMAND manual says you will find the connection sockets in the glove box and shows three of them. 1/8" jack plug for MP3 players, iPod plug and USB socket.

I assumed that they come with the car but I could be wrong.

If the USB socket does come with the car, any USB to mini USB cable should work. I have one that came with my camera.

Update:

The Universal Media Interface comes standard with MP3 player and iPod cables. The UMI to USB cable is sold by the dealer. If it's $100, I'm going to check with Jeep dealers to see what they want for it since they also have the UCI.

I was tired of not have a great place to mount my iPhone so I have started to make my own custom mount. This is a work in progress and only on 0.9 beta verison I have yet to lay some fiberglass, sand and paint it a high-gloss black. I also would prefer that it doesn't lean as far back but too late now that it's cured. I'll probably fix with it when I do the next version. I created a mold so can make more easily.

Looks good Philly. I remember seeing that from a previous post. I'll take a pick of mine installed in the car and post it later tonight.

I keep a couple of can coolies in the cup holders and just stick my keys and cell phone in the one I'm not using. Diet Mt Dew in the other!

Certainly like the prototype you are making above. Do you plan to modify your mold to fit same as the ashtray? After seeing yours I was thinking about having my R&D guys take a "negative" of the bottom of my ashtray to make a temporary mold and pour some clear resin in similar to yours. Paint that sucker gloss black and off we go. Lots of irons in the fire right now with the move coming up but will post something up if I get this one to the top of my to do list.

Great idea!

I guess it might be just me but why do you guys take your phone out of your pocket?
I don’t need a cradle; my phone stays in my pocket.
If it wasn’t for the crappy Nav in our cars I would never ever have a reason to take my iphone out.

I hate having my phone in my pants pocket while in the car and we usually don't wear jackets here in the summer, I cant imaging you wearing jackets out there at all Plus, it's hard to text and do things on the phone while it's in your pocket (i know, not safe while driving).

hype: thanks!

Pntblnk: It actually is a mold of the ashtray. Here's some add'l photos. Remember, it's not finished yet.

Just got this yesterday from Pep Boys. Cup holder cradle. This should work great on long trips.Easy access to phone without lifting it.Sorry about the lousy pics, they were taken early this morning in dark garage.

Found a good iPhone holder. This connects directly to cigarette lighter.

Also lets you turn your iPhone or iPod sideways.

Bought one for $50 at Sams club.

See below link.

I know this is really old but I just got a 2012 E350 and would like to thank you for the ideas. I just made my ash tray into a lightning dock charger using the epoxy resin to fill the ash tray idea and another idea I saw using chrome trim. I'm still waiting on a different usb lighter charger to give it a cleaner look but this one works for now
