Panorama Roof noises

My E350 2010 already has one year old. Just two times in the shop. First one this year in March for Nav radio issues.
Now panorama roof is squicking and clacking sound when moving.
I was told that the roof needs adjustment.
I hope it isnt complicated

Could be as simple as spraying a little silicon on the seals for the roof. Common problem with sunroofs in general.

Hi sotomd-

Please keep us updated on what you find out about the pano noises.

Thanks,
Scott

I got my car back today from the shop MB in Puerto Rico. The made adjustment in the back pano roof frame. The advisor told me that after some time the roof frame may need an adjustment. Nothing serious.
Now there is no annoying clacking sound on the roof. Additionally the MB advisor fix a sound on my seat (driver side). Apparently the storage under the seat was insulated for sound proofing.

mine's getting squeaky too but I can live with it for now lol

As these big panoramic glass roofs, are meant as a structural part of the car, they tend to twist and move under load. They will eventually squeak. I had the same issues with my E350's panoramic roof

Thanks for the upate sotomd. Glad to hear it was a simple adjustment that the dealer was able to make.

Yuille36, were the squeaks you had in your panorama roof fixed/mitigated by adjustments, or just something you had to live with?

I took the car in, and they made their adjustments and lubricated everything. And when I got the car back everything was as it should be :)

Good deal, thanks Yuille36. My white E350 w/ pano will be here soon and I'm glad to hear, with a bit of maintenance, that these roofs remain fairly quiet.

I couldn't pass up the look of the pano anyway, so I'm ready to live with whatever the pano serves up.

fwiw, your dealer should be servicing the pano roof each time the car is in for a service (it should always be free as part of each 10k service.) If not, ask them.

The lube isn't just any lube and it's used in only certain places (it's all spelled out in STAR Tekinfo.)

The grease is Spezial-Gleitmittel fur Glasschiebedacher. Part number is Mercedes-Benz Gleitpaste 001 989 14 51.

You can get it form the dealers but it's not cheap (a small container but it will last a lifetime. I'd just have the dealer do it as part of the service.) http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/ist-i...n-t485397.html

Excellent info, thank you 220S.

The pano roof is just a front opening (one piece) sunroof, no? The back one does not open. I don't understand why there are so many issues with it.

sotomd 05-04-2011 06:49 PM

The reason that the back one makes noises is due to the fact that is not a metal sheet and is not welded to the car platform. With the Heat and Cold expansion and contraction plus car movements the frame may get loose.
But besides everything I think that if you have a car with so many luxury items and so pricy complains are allowed.
