It's interesting that those exact same words about the new 2012 E550 was also in a post from another person a few days ago, and also without a document. fwiw, I gave up on forums for any information long ago. Unless it's an actual document or official link. So now I'm Mr. Skeptical about everything
Call your dealer and if the product guide is out, then get a copy. Or email this salesperson (she has the current info and will reply back; I've asked her questions before and she was really great about replying and knows a lot about the product she sells) http://www.benzblogger.com/
Maybe BudC could scan his document for everybody.

Then how about you STFU and read what I posted above... I said "a source" and not "he said she saiid." We all know that "what this dude told me" is not a source.

It's effective April 2011 and I believe it was shown to dealer GM's.
Salesmen may or may not have been given this Info yet. MBUSA likes to have them focus on current inventory as long as possible.
I realize you can't make a decision on my word and I don't want you to. Go bug your dealer.

The source of the document is on a restricted Mercedes website and I haven't got access to it. I have seen the presentation and I repeated the parts that talk about the E550.

EDIT Part 2: I now have the ordering form plus prices, colors, options, trims, etc., in my hands. It was just emailed to me by my GM. Sorry, I can't post it, but if anybody has any specific questions feel free to PM me.
++ But, there will be no W212 E550 RWD available in the USA anymore. AWD only. And without Airmatic and in sport model only.
BudC is correct!
Several other changes. This is like a mid cycle face lift and with new motors and tranny, too.
Plus all AWD cars will now have electronic power steering as standard.
Bottom line is that the E550 is not a big seller in the US and the emphasis is on moving the E350s....
Big news: E63 wagon is on it's way to the US

I love the n.a. motor in my 11' 550, so I don't care about the new t.t. motor. I am a little jealous about the new lcd center screen though. That looks trick.

Airmatic settings on the E500?
Stitched dash on the E500?
Stitched dash on the E350?
Comfort/port suspension setting on the E350?
Suspension Raise button on the E350? Airmatic... E350?
It seems that they strip the "class" out of the E-class and sell us a taxi-version of the E in the US?

imho, it makes more sense now for someone to go from a W211 to a W212. Going to the new W212 back in late 2009 wasn't a huge paradigm shift. Now things are starting to make the W212 what it really should have been when it was first introduced.

Can we expect to see you in a 2012 E63 soon, 220S?

Wow, so is M-B sacrificing a torquer day to day driving feel, for Marketing purposes (higher HP rating?).
I rarely touch 3500 RPM's in my car, so having it that high wouldn't do me much good.
Anyway, HP isn't as much what I'm concerned about, I want to know how well the new V6 feels (smoothness, etc.), and if it'll really considerably better MPG than our cars with the extra HP.

It's impressive primarily because the 2012 E350 is now rated at 302 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 273 pound-feet of torque between 3,200 and 5,250 rpm – that's a 34-hp jump and a 15-lb ft leap in the midst of the much improved fuel economy and CO2 emitting.
Other than the intro of direct injection to our 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6, overall friction losses between the mechanical moving parts of the engine have been reduced some 28 percent, a move that permits the use of lower viscosity fluids. There's less stress
The new engines higher torque of 273 lb ft comes in at 3200 not 3500 and at 2400 where the old engine makes 258 lb ft the new engine should still be at/near that number at the lower rpm so it's a win win.
The fact that the new 6 is non turbo makes it even better as unless/until MB tones down the hiss I heard driving the new V8 TT DFI in the CL550, the NA V8 sounds better...fuel economy as read above will be up about 20% with the new 6, that's big.

Hehehe....
I'm still not excited about the new design language of Mercedes.
BUT.......the ultimate sleeper: the new 2012 E63 wagon!!
I actually called my dealer to talk things over soon......
I wanted an E63 wagon back when I bought my car but none were left. And then they said, sorry no more. I actually don't mind the look in the wagon body style, those Ponton rear fender haunches seem to fit the lines more logically than they do on the sedan, imho. And the rear lights don't appear as humungous. The interior is still meh, but with the AMG touches and maybe some Designo options it could be palatable.
But even if I had been excited about the W212 when it was initially introduced, I would have waited things out anyway. It tends to always get better after the first few years of a release.
Only problem is I really like this NA 6.2 motor. It's so smooth and it sounds delicious. And the throttle response is great. It's one of the nicest V8s ever made, imho. Kinda sad to see it be a victim of high gas prices and CAFE rules.

Nice, looks like the new V6 will be a winner. Definitely gives you a lot more bang for your buck on this car.
Oh well, I'll stay happy with my good ol' non-DI motor. At least my car still has a "chirp" for an alarm notification. 20 MPG City sounds great though, even on great days, my I/C won't show much above 19 MPG.
BTW, why does that look like the ugliest motor/motor cover ever on a modern Benz? Damn, I thought I was looking at a picture of a M-B Diesel engine from the 70's.

Very true.
Thing is, I think I'm gonna try and stay away from Leasing next time, and I'd hate to buy another W212 if I don't end up keeping the one that I've got. At the same time, I don't foresee any cars capturing me more-so that are in the same price range. I'm keeping a side note of the CLS, but not sure how I feel about that car yet.
Decisions decisions, lol. I guess 2013 will have the answer.
It is too bad though. I like the current drivetrain, but in terms of all around efficiency and advancements, it's quickly becoming a dinosaur.

Your engine is tried and true KA, who knows what kind of trouble ie oil usage the new motor will have...
Be glad you leased, hand the keys back at the end and it's all good.

Yeah, the current 3.5 is super solid, and lacks a few of the newer ones complexities. Chances are in the long run, it is a safer quality bet. I have no complaints about my cars engine, a really great and strong sounding/feeling V6, however it could have better MPG for the HP. One area that the new one could make me feel really upset about mine is if it's noticeably and much smoother, since the current one is really smooth already.
And true about the Lease.... Although, I'll be out $30something G's after 39 months with nothing to show for it! Lol.

Yep. Screw Leasing. Unless the deal is too ridiculous to pass up, and/or unless I figure out a way to write it off better than a Finance/Buy (so far no dice).
So at the end of my Lease, I'm either taking my whip, or plunging out a much higher amount to buy another brand new car, since thanks to my first "Brand New Car" ownership experience, I don't think I want my primary car to be second hand ever again! (maybe with super low mileage. )
