Video and Picture of 2012 E with new LED's/Changes....
I still like the hockey sticks for their exclusivity over the generic/corporate straight-across look (direct piece from the rest of the M-B line) and due to their looking a bit more aggressive and dynamic, but these straighters look good and classy, and give a wide visual.
In the video, they say "revised tailpipes on the Sport models for an even sportier appearance". They look identical to me, and I haven't heard anything else about that.
.... Oh, and guess what, looks like M-B has DEBADGED cars in the video! Uh oh.

There is another thread here somewhere about my previous "blunder" of buying the straight ones used on the luxury model earlier this year. The guy in service said they would fit when i bought them, and... well... they didnt. He was good enough to take them back and get me a refund

I'm happy with my crooked driver, so I'll stick to that for now.

Wouldn't changing the HS's to the 2012 straight bars be essentially the same as rebadging to make the car look like a something it isn't? I don't care either way, but with all the strong opinions expressed in recent threads, it seems like a change of this nature would be even more deceptive and provoke stronger reactions.

They're identical to the C-Classes LED's. In fact, they're probably the exact same piece across the whole M-B range.
I'll stick to the slanted ones that are exclusive to the W212's, only unless I get a 2012+ at some point, lol.

perhaps... but i dont give a flying ____ what anyone else thinks. I wouldnt put an AMG badge on my car, cause i think that's just wrong. But personally, I dont see a problem with updating the exterior, especially if I like what I am updating to more than what I have currently

Personally, badging is where I draw the line.
If someone mods an E350 to look exactly like an E63, it's all good in my book (although fairly tasteless IMO) as long as there's no "6.3L" on the sides or E63/AMG badging on the back, and as long as they don't tell people they drive an E63.
Aesthetics are aesthetics and they're more taste-oriented, badging isn't aesthetic, it's purely an advertisement of what model you are driving. That's why, it should either be 100% accurate, or disappear altogether.
Sure, lots of people will change bits and pieces of their cars to make them look updated to look like the newer cars, some simply because they want people to think they have more $$$$, and some because they just like the look. IMO regardless of reason, aesthetic mods are always fair game (but subject to major criticism or judgement of course).

Let's keep it objective and say that badging is an identification rather than an advertisement for those sensitive lemins on this board. As for other modifications to looks/performance/etc, I agree with you.

I'm a big fan of the "Hockey-stick" lights - I think they add a lot to the sports-style / more aggressive look. The very fact that they are a bit polarizing makes them worth having - cars (in general) are already too similar and same-same as each other as it is. Back in the day you could tell a ford from a Chevy a mile away and models changed entirely from year to year - these days, with a few exceptions, its one molded blob after another. So anything that dares break the mold is A-OK with me.
I give a lot of credit to Dodge / Chrysler in this area - regardless of what you think about the cars themselves, they were brave enough to actually put out the prowler, charger, viper....even the 300C - and they did it way before anyone else.
SO RIP Hockey-sticks, too bad the Mercedes Ruler-wielders beat you down and found yet one more place to put a tiresome straight line.

Yeah, hockey-stick owners should be proud of their more individualized drl's!
No doubt the reason for the change was due to cost cutting. M-B will save a lot by not having to produce the angled drl's for only the E-Classes.

I know I am going to get sh*t on for saying this, but I still prefer the 'classic' look of my four round lights up front. Let the thrashing begin...hehehe. I am sure I will be able to find a nice 70 year old blue hair to sell my luxury to when my wife bores of her E....hahaha...Funny story- leaving the store a couple days ago a saw my exact car which I never see (Luxury with four rounds) up ahead so I speed up to take a look and two little old ladies that must have been 75 years old were in it. Nice.

I have the round fogs but still like the hockey sticks over the new straight fogs. The straight fogs lack the sporty look of the hockey sticks. I think the straight would appeal to the old ladies.
