I can understand it on some cars,but how do you pose with a MB? I mean you got a Benz,a step above most other cars so isnt that kind of posing in a sense? Anyhow it looks good and clean for sure and as long as your good with it, Bravo.

Debagding first became popular in Germany in the 70's when people would rebadge their smaller displacement Mercedes to confuse people as to the engine under the hood. Back then, the model numbers (generally equaling displacement) were riveted on and MB sold, as a 300 DM (about $100 depending on the exchange rate of the day) option,a debadged trunk lid. I'm not sure when it started in the US.

I had the dealer remove the e350 and the blue whatever it is badges that are on the sides.

I wanted the side trim on the lower doors removed also and they told me they could not due to the clips they use. I know a few guys on here removed them as just taped on.

Can anyone confirm this for a 2012 E350 sedan?

It looks good. I always debadge my cars. Never liked the look of numbers/names on the back of cars. Also its not really posing unless you put on another number other than the one you took off....

I to de-badged mine. I like the even look on the back and it just looks so much cleaner imo. I would debadge it even if it were an e63. Not the sides though.

I call BS. Why is it that it is mostly E350 owners who debadge. Very few E550 people do it. It's to create the illususion that it may be a E550 instead of the entry level E350.

You can call BS all you want. I've been de-badging my cars since my first. My first car was a Camaro Z28 which was de-badged, and my BMW 535 i just traded in was de-badged. I would also de-badge my mustang GT but they have 2 wholes that would need to get filled. I can only speak for myself but i did it purely for looks. Furthermore, your logic is flawed. If that were the effect someone were going for it would be much better to buy a 5 and replace the 3 with it. I think posers are gay myself.

Btw, do you have any statistics to back this up? I'm sure there are 550 owners out there who have done this. I don't think anyone would be embarassed to have a 350 instead of a 550 to motivate them pull the badges off but than again i don't understand why people put fake badges on either.

Also, typically most manufacturers don't have badges on the lower model car. So, if anything one would assume it's not a 550 if it had no badge.

While it is true that debadging originally started to obfuscate the exact model number (i.e. engine size) in Europe, it the US it appears that debadging is primarily found in the enthusiast community to "clean up" the trunk lid. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with making a lesser model look like a different model.

Or, 350 owners debadge because they focus on the cleaner look, while 550 owners keep it on as some misguided attempt to boast "superior" or add extra inches to their peni$es (which nobody in the public would notice or find a 550 superior to a 350 anyway.... They look identical, unlike an AMG with its obvious aggressive additions, which also would go mostly unnoticed by the general public).

I think there are certainly tons of people who debadge to hide having a lesser model as well, however, it's a case by case basis.

If I had a 550, first thing I'd do is de-badge it. 550 sitting on the left side looks just as bad as 350. Best part about de-badging, is by "taking something off, not adding something on", you actually add a substantial "mod" back there that simultaneously cleans up the look.

For what it's worth. I have removed the side molding on my W212 it is only held on with the same adhesive as the trunk badges. the chrome strip above the rear licence plate also uses some of this tape along with clips to attach it to the trunk.

Hence the small **** *jokes*.

Besides, if people will take V6 badges off because they want to hide that they have the "lower" model, which many indeed do, then people will also keep on V8 badges, to attempt to stroke their ego by looking "superior", which is also true.

Then there are those who of course genuinely strive for the best look, who either like the OEM chrome lettering look, or the clean look, regardless of engine designation.

I think in the US it is primarily the enthusiast community that debadges. This community is younger and less affluent and more likely to buy a 350 vs a 550.

If we see a debadged E on the road (without knowing the owner or looking under the hood) how would you know if it was a 350 or a 550? Certainly nobody outside of the enthusiast community would care.
