does W212 auto lock??

I walked up to my wife's car tonight (2011 W212), unlocked the car with the key fob and placed the fob on the roof. In about 10-15 seconds the doors locked themselves. I unlocked the doors again with the key fob, placed it on the roof once again and the car locked itself again after a short time. Does this sound right? It is a P1 package so I was not touching the door handle on a P2 equipped car.

I would hate to unlock the car, put the key fob in the car, get out and shut the doors and have the car lock itself with the key fob inside. Again, not a P2 car.

I bet your manual has the answer to this. :X

If you unlock a locked car and then don't open a door the car will relock.

:smash:

I don't believe that it will auto-relock if the key is inside the car.

It will not re-lock once a door is opened.

newyorktoLA 01-16-2012 10:24 PM

Yes, I have a 2011 P1 E350 and the doors do re-lock after approximately 15 seconds after I unlock the car. If you unlock the car with the key fob, open a door and then close it, the car will NOT re-lock after 15 seconds. Just make sure you open something, and the car will remain unlocked.

The doors will lock if you leave the key inside the car. I did a little experiment. I put one key in the car and locked it with the other spare key. I unlocked the car with the spare key and didn't open any doors. The doors auto locked after 15 seconds with the original key still inside the vehicle.

On my S550 (Premium 3) and GL350 (Premium 2), both with keyless go, the doors will not lock if the key is inside the vehicle because the keys are constantly communicating with the Keyless Go tech inside the car via IR.

Thanks for the info but it appears nearly impossible to lock the keyfob (and baby) in the car when using only 1 keyfob. Not that I ever would, but it sounds like if I walk up and unlock car with keyfob, then open door and put the key inside of car and shut the door the car will NOT automatically lock.

yes, it's been a safety feature for all mercedes for years. annoying for some but a good feature nonetheless.

This tells why key fob batteries drain sooner than expected

Keys : Hey, buddy how are you ?
Keyless go Tech : Fine , good to see you again

Keys : Thanks, can you please turn on the radio , let's have some fun

Keyless Go Tech : Cool, that's a good idea . How about New Country Hits

Keys : Well, I would like it if you have some House

Keyless Go Tech : Ok, let's go for it

and it continues lol :slap: :naughty: :zoom::D :word:

Cool, when you have P2 you never can observe this nice feature.

silberrosa 01-17-2012 11:00 PM

Sure you can, as long as the key is not inside the car, the function will work the same. Try unlocking your car with the key or by touching the door handle. It will unlock and as long as you do not open the door or trunk, will re-lock.

This feature prohibits accidental unlocking. Let's say the key is in your pocket and the button is pressed inadvertently. The car will re-lock itself as it assumes you did not want to unlock it since you did not open the door or trunk.

Engineered like no other Car in the World...

It can sound funny but I hated the feature in my Lexus. Kids asking me to unlock car so I do it remotly, but when they reach the car it appears to be locked again.

Most cars (maybe all) with keyless remote re-lock if door not opened. It's a safety feature.

There is an option to disable the automatic locking in car settings.

I have 2014 p1 with Key-Less Go.
1. I tried putting the key in the trunk and close it, and it'll reopen automatically. I have a video to share too.
2. I CANNOT lock the door, with the key inside.
3. I CANNOT lock the doors, with engine running and keys outside the car(Ex: car in parking lot, engine still running, went to check the mailbox, which is in front of the car), still, I wanted to lock the car. The door handle lock button doesn't work, the 'Lock' button on the remote doesn't work either.
4. I turned off the car, 2 passengers got down out of 3, I LOCKED the car. The 3rd passenger got down and the alarm goes off for few seconds.
5. I'm done with my driving, did not lock the car, but closed all the door tightly, the doors DOESN'T LOCK AUTOMATICALLY. The 'Auto lock' feature in the MFD shows "Enabled".

I need help with #5 :)

I'll answer:
1. this is safety feature that's been on Mercedes (and many German cars) for years...it's essentially an aid that says "we make it virtually impossible for you to lock your keys inside the vehicle", thus requiring you to purposely press the lock button on the remote (or door handle, in case of Keyless Go) to lock the vehicle from the outside
2. this is safety feature that's been on Mercedes (and many German cars) for years...it's essentially an aid that says "we make it virtually impossible for you to lock your keys inside the vehicle", thus requiring you to purposely press the lock button on the remote (or door handle, in case of Keyless Go) to lock the vehicle from the outside
3. this is safety feature that's been on Mercedes (and many German cars) for years...it's essentially an aid that says "we make it virtually impossible for you to lock the door but leave the engine running", i.e. you pull into the garage and forget to turn off the vehicle, but habitually lock the door...now you have a CO build-up that can kill you
4. passenger exiting the car while the doors are lock/alarm set = car armed, but someone breaking into the car...hence the alarm going off
5. 'Auto Lock' is a setting not for locking doors from the outside, but rather auto locking of the doors once you are in motion and have reached 15mph (or whatever the new velocity they use now)

:y

Ah, I thought so, but, it would be nice to have autolock, when I walk away.
Although, touching the door handle was so subtle and stylish, that would be nice. :)

Yeah, a nice simple 'feature' that they overlooked while they were busy over-engineering everything thing else.

In contrast, I believe the Lincolns and Teslas (and maybe a few other vehicles) will automatically lock once they sense you are xx feet from the vehicle, and will automatically unlock (and illuminate puddle lamps/welcome lights) once your presence is senses within a certain proximity.

Guess you can't have everything...

Tesla's Opens the doors for you, once you're near for Model X and just brings the handles out for Model S.

Even Acura's lock the door, after I walk away with the keys(MDX only or all cars after 2015, I guess; which came late to the party already).

I believe, since we have all the hardware, it is a matter of S/W upgrade. MB should include this feature in next COMMAND Firmware upgrade..!
