Taking Off Head Rest In E350

Anybody know how to take off headrest. I need to take them off to install sheep skin seat cover made for E350. Dealer is asking $145 for the job.
Any help please.

Make sure they are installed so that the air bag does not go off inside the sheepskin god forbid there was an accident...

I've had MB sheepskins on a 190D I drove for 17 years and they've been on my 20 year old 300E from the day I bought it. They've kept us warm in Minnesota winters and cool in Arizona summers.

My new E550 with seat heaters and ventilation but it's not the same.

Don't knock 'em if you haven't tried them (good ones of course).

Extend the headrest fully with the power controls and then pull straight out. You will have to recline the seat somewhat, obviously.

Thank you so very much. I must not be doing something right. I had headrest all the way up and tried to pull it but something was catching it. Any Idea? my car is 2012 E350 Bluetec.

I am sure this doesn't apply anymore but on my '87 E-class i distinctly remember there being a button in the middle of the back of the front seats to push once you pull the headrest all the way up LOL.

The manual doesn't offer any help I assume?

Raymond can you post pics when you are done? I always to thought the grey sheapskins in the '80s looked good but never got them with the leather. The new one's looks weird now as they are airbag compatible I think but seen some pics on GLs on the forum which don't look too bad. Now that I have MBText though I may consider for the summer to keep my back cooler?

Not sure how easy a job it would be, but because the headrest is controlled electronically, it probably isn't as easy as just pulling it out...

Thank you very much. That is what I am afraid of. I called a dealer. They said it could run as low as $147 to $280 high.

Remove seat back, disconnect NECK-PRO electrical connector unclip head restraint from mount/bracket – check PM.

I found a custom made Australlian sheepskin cover made for E350. It does not require taking headrest off to install the seat. E350 headrest is attached to motor and it is a big job to take headrest off by dealer, a cost to run as high as over $200.
With this, rather hard MB tex seat issue is gone! With a thick plush sheepskin, it feels good to seat on.

Raymond can you post a link? Not really considering the sheepskins now but may contemplate in the summer.

THanks!

On a semi-related topic, do the rear headrests in a 2012 W212 manually tilt or not? Thx

May seem a bit cheeky but it was a question I didn't know the answer to so I went to my W212 2011 wagon and looked. They don't. They can be raised and lowered by depressing the button on the collar.
I too looked at the manual for confirmation.
They don't

On mine, one does and two do not. It must've accidentally gotten switched at some point during its life.

Wonder what the tilt one is from?! Maybe an older or newer E?

Thx for the education! If and when the time comes to replace it, I'll know how to remove it! Ha.

hello.
could you PM me the instructions also? I need to remove the Driver side front head rest - seems something's broken inside it... i can see broken plastic in the popped out section. Car was parked but we've been having very hot weather here lately. maybe the plastics got weakened?
