E350 bluetec tuning chip

I asked around in the S class forums, but no one there seems to have tried this.

http://www.racechip.de/racechip-chip...EC-3382-r.html

This company (Racechip) makes the same tuning chip for the E class as well and seems very reasonably priced.

Any chance someone here has this installed and can provide feedback?

Thanks

Probably because it's an EU tune, probably not compatible with the North American ECU, that would be my guess.

Got an email from them, this a.m, saying that the two respective models should work on the E and S class with no problems. Here is the response:

Dear Sir,

many thanks for your request.

You can order the RaceChip for your vehicle with the following link:

I'll be interested to see power and economy gains, as well as installation location. Thanks for contacting them.

Yes, I've seen the false reports, and I can only attribute that to our poor quality diesel as compared to the EU.

I see 335d diesel cars with similar tune (JB+ from BMS) making additional 40 to 50 HP and increased torque with the same California diesel. So I am not sure why that guy got such a poor result.

BMW utilizes multiple turbo design as well as multiple wastegates so who knows how their ECU operates. These tunes increase base PSI and control the wastegate actuators for additional power. JB and BMS are American tuners as well, so they know the limitations of the low cetane rated U.S. diesel so maybe they are boosting even more to produce consistent results.

wikipedia foo:

In Europe, diesel cetane numbers were set at a minimum of 38 in 1994 and 40 in 2000. The current standard for diesel sold in European Union, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland is set in EN 590, with a minimum cetane index of 46 and a minimum cetane number of 51. Premium diesel fuel can have a cetane number as high as 60.[2]

In North America, most states adopt ASTM D975 as their diesel fuel standard and the minimum cetane number is set at 40, with typical values in the 42-45 range. Premium diesels may or may not have higher cetane, depending on the supplier. Premium diesel often use additives to improve CN and lubricity, detergents to clean the fuel injectors and minimize carbon deposits, water dispersants, and other additives depending on geographical and seasonal need

Any pics from the install? Did you get the RaceChip PRO? or the lower output RaceChip? I am very interested in doing this! Especially since I have friends coming over here from Germany in a few weeks

Got the 129 Euro version. Did not take any pics yet, but you literally have to unplug one connector and plug it in cable from the racebox and then plug the other side of the cable into the original connector on the engine. DONE!

Lastly you route the box it self away from the engine and tie it using the provided twist ties.

Max 10 minutes to install.

Have been using DTUK for over a week and really loving it. Just having no lag makes it such a good experience and with the added power the car feels transformed.

No EML\check engine so far.

What / who is DTUK?
ANS: http://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/

How was the installation?
ANS: Very easy, you tap into 2 sensors boost and rail. max 10 minutes to install.

Where did you purchase it from?
ANS: Ordered through Andrew@dieseltuninguk.com, he will deduct VAT and ship internationally. Provides great pre and post sales support.

How do you know there is added power? Is it just your feeling or have you dynoed it? Any numbers improved?
ANS: No Dyno, just general driveabilty and feel. I have used Juice box JB4 in my previous cars so I know a little about these piggy back tunes.

Thanks for your help.
No Problem.
