I've done full projector retrofits before and I like the 6k pure white. 5500 is pretty dang close as well. Yes the driver side is easily accessed - once you get the wheel off and the front half of the fender liner pulled.
The metal clips are similar shape to OEM but are U shape to get the wiring through them. They don't fit as well as the OEM unless you mess with them a bit to ensure they are truly secured in place under the housing tabs. I've not had the bulbs come loose though so they do work for the intended purpose.
I still really like the end lighting results especially since they are installed into the stock projector housings. I would not do HID in standard housings but that's an endless debate.

I have had mine inside the housing for almost a year. I have never had any issues or damages. I did drill a small hole on the bottom side of the housing cap to allow heat to escape. Never had any water or anything get in the hole since is almost impossible for water to get in there.
