1 Attachment(s)
I slightly removed the carpet and to see what was behind the carpet
I came across this tool near by the spare tyre . So, what's it ? I looked the manual and could not figure out what it was lol
There are cables but it's not battery :nix:

Another thing, my tires are Continental but this spare tyre is Pirelli  . So, I would appreciate some of guys take a look your spare tires and see if these are also different brand or not

BTW, I am very happy with my Continentals :D

Thanks

Battery?

konigstiger May 26, 2012 03:16 PM

Additional battery for ECO start/stop function.

BenzV12 May 26, 2012 04:55 PM

Battery ? WOW, I thought it was battery too but I know our battery is located in the front not in the trunk so this is why I ruled out that option lol

Thanks for your replies, it never dawned on me that there was a battery for ECO / START thingy lol :naughty:

Whoa, how do you have a full size spare?

leapingpoint May 26, 2012 07:08 PM

Spare tires are spare tires. They don't have to be the same brand or size. My car came with continentals and have Pirelli spare too, also in full size. I don't know about the US spec, but in china, all the imported W212 came with full size spares. The made in china stretched version E (V212) now come with midget spare.

Thanks again for your replies guys :y

I am honestly surprised to see a full size spare as well . :D

telemakhos May 27, 2012 06:19 PM

My old Benz had a full size spare but my 2011 has a compact spare. It is the same brand as the regular tires (Continental.)

leapingpoint May 27, 2012 06:37 PM

Actually, my E not only came with full size spare, but also the same wheel!

I beleive that is the built in "air compressor". It's for repairing flats.

Manual also talks about air compressor as well . I was convinced that it was battery after replies but now  lol Well, thanks for your reply , I will e-mail this image to a friend of mine in the dealership . Let's see what it turns out to be lol

EDIT :
Final verdict is it's an additional battery that helps ECO / START system run on . Let's say you turn on this ECO button and waiting at the lights and this ensures engine to stop and start when you press the gas pedal it helps the engine start w/o making it feel any jerk

thought it might have been an 'oil slick' defense thing......I wish

Cool! Good luck with the car.....:y

Can this secondary battery be "tapped" like the primary battery for an auxillary amplifier, etc.? It would be great to not have to run a power cable from the main battery up front.

My understanding is that on any car with anti-lock brakes you should not run with different tires on the same axle (different brands, different tread pattern, etc) except in an emergency.

If you have a full size spare and it is not the same as the driving tires on the car, I would ask mercedes to replace it with the same tire as your driving tires....someone, at some point, will use that tire to retire a wheel and you will have a mismatch of tires.
