What could M-B do to the facelift that would NOT make you consider it?

What could M-B do to the facelift that would NOT make you consider it?

I'll start:

-Homogenizing it with the rest of the lineup (no quad eyes, no Ponton fender, round-"organic" shaped parts non-harmoniously "screwed into" a very straight and angular/sharp core design, etc).

.... Add: Homogenize it by ruining the "sanctity" of the stately front end with standup Star that the E and S exclusively carry, by swapping it for the typical Star grille.

-Put more hard plastics inside (highly unlikely).

Make it look like a Lexus or Audi ... Iow, rounded or bland. Walking out of my golf club this afternoon, I thought to myself how much I like the aggressive angular look of the W212, underscoring the sharp contrast to the rounded look of the Lexus or the boring slab-sided Audi A6.

You nailed it, my thoughts exactly. I was testing an F10 the other day, and looking at my car next to it, that bold, unapologetic front, etc., I just loved how much character it has. The A6 and F10 and pretty much everything else are going to very simple, pretty un-emotive looks, for better or worse (depends on who you ask). I feel that the description we're hearing about, in what the W212 facelift will apparently look like, is saying that M-B are going to try and go "soft" on it and play along with Audi/BMW/Lexus with the rounder and more "digestable" styling. We'll see, but based on the renderings, I don't think it'll appeal to me. Not because I don't like round styling (I love them when executed right, just like I do angular styling when the same), but because the W212 is an angular and bold core car, it'll look half-a$$ed if they wedge on some round elements.

By making it roundish unlike present design and styling

I agree with all above and my input what MB should not do
Deleting leather covered dash and upper door panels (UO9)
Deleting sun protection package (rear door sunblinds)

Ugly monolog analog (lol) A/C control panel

Round buttons spread thru the steering wheel
Bangle butt trunk lid
CLS like tail light
No coloumn shifter available

Ooh, good one on the HVAC controls. The SL, CLS, etc. models that cost more than the E, have the cheap HVAC controls that debuted on the cheap pre-facelift C-Class interior, which is clearly a cost cutting/parts sharing move. I'd be bummed if they removed that on the facelifted E, since the E's system I believe is exclusive to it (?), which is good for us drivers, but bad for their penny pinching.

K-A, come on... I think the F10 especially with the M-sport looks way better than the W212

The real mystique about the E is that it is a self-defining car. It really doesn't matter what MB does with regards to quad lights, ponton fenders, etc. because it will still be the new E. I personally find the "rendered" photos of the new E that have been going around to be quite attractive. Attractive in an evolutionary way, not a revolutionary way. The E will still be the one to beat. No worries here.

Are we talking about MY2013 or MY2014 here? Here is another blog post apparently about MY2013 and MY2014:

Looks like you won't be driving a MY14+ since all your nightmares will come true.

Of course we're all entitled to our opinions. IMO the F10 lacks the W212's dynamic design and character. It's more easy to swallow, less polarizing, more elegant and graceful, but I've never seen an F10 next to my car that made me think of switching....YET.

Though, this one tried.

Do you have info that they'll incorporate a Star grille into the E's front? That one I sort of made up. That would be terrible.

E350 Coupe
This time K-A i agree with you. Number one in my opinion is the pontoon fenders. The MB coupes and sedans that the E Class inherited the pontoon fenders from were some of the most elegant looking cars of their time. Although I'm a coupe owner I agree that the standup star and the grill of the sedan are traditional Mercedes and should not be abandoned. There is a reason that Hyundai copies the E in it's high end product line and that's because of the E's elegance. I'm sorry but in my opinion BMW is still stuck in the same old rut it has been for years. Although the look has been updated overall the look still follows the old "Bangle" lines. The only BMW which I would consider and I'm 100% taken with it would be the new 6 series coupe or cabriolet but the cab is pushing $113,000 and for significantly less I could purchase The E cab.

I would not buy another E if they dropped the Luxury version in the US.

Another great one. That would be another unfortunate slap in the face to true "E" ideals. I wish the Sport Package wasn't free, I was very happy to pay extra for it with the W211 and have a more "exclusive look" and deal with the harder ride.
