Recommended source for MB Extended Warranty?

When we bought my wife's Acura, I recall there were a few dealers who supported the forum and who offered significant discounts on the factory extended warranty.

Are there any such dealers recommended here for the MB Extended Warranty? What kind of price would I be looking at for the longest available (is that 7r/100,000mi?) for a '13 E550?

TIA,
Richard

i have never purchased extended warranty before but i know you can get it from sites like warrantydirect dot com for much better prices. however, not hurt to shop around dealers like how you shop for cars. they might give you deals.

check with your dealer/repair shop on which ones they work with. We've had an incidence where 3rd party warranty bought from one dealer was not accepted at the other. It turned out the SA was just too lazy to make the claim since he had to call in to get pre-authorization and then arrange with accounting to receive compensation.

I think we were quoted $2400 for MB extended warranty on 2012? Forgot.

Thanks - I should have been clearer - I mean the official Mercedes Benz MBUSA "factory" extended warranty. Like everything else these are negotiated price so I'l like to know what I could buy one for before making a deal, or perhaps better stated as where I'll buy one if I can't make a good enough deal

Thanks,
Richard

We just bought the a 3 year, 50,000mi (total 7 years, 100,000mi) extension for our GL. Dealer in NY wanted $5600 which included a dealer 15% fee plus tax. We bought it over the phone for $3000 plus tax from a dealer in Wisconsin for the same product.

Wisconsin and Florida do not charge the 15% dealer fee if bought at any time after purchase of the vehicle and the vehicle is still in the warranty period. The price is definitely negotiable and appears to vary from dealer to dealer. Good luck.

FYI, you can buy any of these products from any dealer. The dealership doesn't like you to know this. We are picking up a new car soon and are buying the wheel insurance from Wisconsin, again a cheaper quote than the NY dealer on the same Mercedes product. The only caveat, the wheel insurance has to be bought prior to us driving the car off the lot.

Thanks! If you don't want to name the Wis dealer, would you mind PMing me the information? I'm surprised your dealer wouldn't negotiate once you indicated your other price. Our Acura dealer quoted list price ($3xxx?), then when I pulled out the online printout he grinned and said "...but apparently you've done some looking around already, so I can do $1xxx." I don't recall the numbers but it was about half, and his updated quote was within $50 of the online price. I'd like to repeat that experience if/when I go in to buy the MB warranty

Thanks again,
Richard

CRembo, or anyone else who might be able to help...I'd appreciate a PM with contact info for a source of well-discounted 'factory' extended warranties.

Thanks in advance.

Definitely check around, but I suspect you are a few months too late - unless things have changed a lot, the factory extended warranties usually cannot be added to out-of-warranty vehicles. The aftermarket warranty choices once you're out of factory warranty usually get quite pricey and greatly reduced coverage....

Going from distant memory*, I seem to recall that adding 4yrs and another 50K miles to the original factory warranty was < $2K at time of purchase, while adding 2yrs and 20,000 mi would have been > $4K once car was out of warranty. There was no way to go from the end of the original extended warranty any further. Also, the original extension covered pretty much everything but wear items, while the out-of-warranty extension covered major powertrain only.

Richard

Correct. As a married of fact, the best prices can only be had when the car is new. The OP won't get a MB warranty after his has expired.

Sorry for the delay in response, I was out of the country. My wife and I dealt with Mercedes-Benz of Elmbrook, an Authorized Mercedes-Benz Dealer located in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The entire transaction was done over the phone and they were very helpful and friendly. We were very impressed.

Good luck!

CRembo -- thanks for the information and was there a particular POC you dealt with?

Everyone else -- anyone contacted them since this post and what what was your experience like, to include the pricing and the POC you dealt with.

Thanks much.

I'm at 40K miles on my 2010 E class and am starting to consider getting an extended warranty. Is $3000 for an additional 50,000 miles a good deal?
Last time I checked they were in the low $2000's if I remember correctly.

The other thing is, I am not 100% sure if getting extended warranty is a good idea if the price is $3000 or so. Considering that I've had good luck with my car I might take a chance and self insure to 100,000 miles.

Thoughts?

As CEB and others have pointed out you can buy a manufacturer's extended warranty at any time prior to the expiration of the original warranty, 4years/50k miles in our case.

Even if it costs more to wait why buy it when you are covered by the original manufacturer's warranty? What if you hate the car 4 years or 50k later? What if the vehicle is totaled or stolen? Why front the premium for something you may not need for as long as 4 years from now? The worst possible situation would be to buy it at time of purchase and then roll it into the car payments and pay interest on it. Transferable? What if you don't buy another MB?

I always wait until near the expiration of the original warranty and weigh the purchase against my miles per year pattern as there are different combinations of mileage and years of coverage available.

As suggested by several forum members price shop the extended warranty with other dealers via phone. Just ask for the Financial & Insurance person. F & I people make their money on selling extended warranties, financing (if they can charge an additional point or two on the interest), and things like tire and wheel insurance. Years ago they were able to sell undercoating, paint and fabric protectors, chrome tissue dispensers (really) and other money makers.

BTW read the policy for tire and wheel insurance, by my recollection it only covers the original tires, so the 3 year covers until the tires are worn out. If in doubt ask for a copy of the contract and read what it covers carefully.

Just purchased my extended warranty through the dealership listed above, Elmbrook, WI. I spoke with Jeffrey, who was extremely helpful and we knocked out the warranty in no time at all. Here's the pricing he quoted me, which was more than fair IMO:

7yr/75,000 -- $2749 is retail, sold to me for $1705, plus $300 profit and 5.1% tax = $2107.26 Total

7yr/100,000 -- $3899 is retail, sold to me for $2475 plus $300 profit and 5.1% tax = 2916.53 Total

The warranty doesn't kick-in until my original warranty expires and the warranty covers everything the original does except moldings and cosmetic things. I told him I would pass his info and pricing along, as he made things extremely easy.

Good luck!

I'd never buy an aftermarket warrnty - FWIW we're in California where the protections against fraud very good. Yet the warranty companies still engagfe in deceitful practices. The only money well spent is on a factory extended warranty...

MBUSA recognized?

Is this an MBUSA recognized warranty that will be honored by all US M-B dealers or is it another type that is sold by this dealer? Heard too many stories about dealers not honoring warranties they did not sell unless MBUSA sanctioned.
BTW, still seems strange that Hyundai and Kia can offer an original warranty far superior to M-B.

Got a mailer from MBUSA today on behalf of dealer saying can save 15% on extended warranties if purchase by Dec. 31. My original expires Nov. 2013.
Anybody else getting these offers?
