How-To: The Hidden Menus

This info is in various places but I took the time tonight to use the Snapguide app on my phone to create some easy to follow how-tos.

You're welcome. You shouldn't need to sign up - I was able to view on my iPad without signing in...

I've heard about "hidden" menus but don't know what they're for. What potential benefits are there in accessing them ??

BM2BZ 07-10-2012 06:15 PM

well done :y! thanks for that.

In the case of the 2010 model, you can enable Bluetooth audio streaming through the Engineering Menu. You can also enable heating/cooling displays on the COMAND screen. There is a wealth of other information, some of which is interesting and some of which is useful if you are technically minded. For instance, I have been able to see some trouble codes that have been logged which may explain why my system loses audio sporadically (it may be temperature related).
On a 2012 C class loaner I was able to change the clock display style to a different one but other than that, nothing terribly interesting other than some Internet connectivity settings that I was not able to figure out.
You can go into these modes and scroll around without changing anything if you're curious. If you do decide to change things, make sure you have some idea of what you're doing and what the original value was. I've noticed that changes tend not to take effect unless you perform a reset rather than just exiting the menu.
The Service Menu/Dyno Mode is obviously more useful if you intend to dyno test your car on a rig.

Interesting you mention this . . . I have experienced CDs not playing in my brand new 2012 E350, but attributed it to the 100+ degree heat we have been having this month here in Virginia.

Is it safe to assume that is what it is? Temps have been in the upper 80s for a few days now, and I have not seen it repeated since the hotter days.

Not sure. It does get hot back there - the unit has fan for cooling. Even if it is the reason I'd take it in and talk to the service people given that it is a brand new car!

If I remember correctly, within the engineering mode, on the main screen there is a Page two with a reset option

May I ask how do you enable heating/cooling displays on the COMMAND?

Never mind, I found it. Thanks.

Where was this option?

If I'm not mistaken, it was under 7.7 and you will need to scroll all the way to 3/5 or 4/5, you will see it.

Hold down 3 buttons: hang up call, 1 and #.

samkimg 05-22-2014 04:14 PM

Has anyone found documentation of these menus, the functions and the recommended settings? I have been looking all over ... I suspect they are limited to the engineering/technical manuals that are currently not available to the public. :nix:

I heard its possible to set any one of the satellite radio channels as the demo station other than the preset one. Has anyone done it?

Great tutorial!

Quick question.....I've heard there is a way to shut off the video lock while driving through engineering mode and a "secret" menu. Are you familiar with this?
If so, how do I access this menu?

Thanks in advance!

screw991le 06-01-2014 07:28 PM

Great I will try the bluetooth audio on this later

I am not aware of a way to do this through menus. I believe it requires an aftermarket unit to bypass the lock.

Bluetooth audio does not work with iPhone 5s. Also anyone know how to get the text reading to work?

thefisch 06-01-2014 09:28 PM

I didn't think text reading was a feature until later models. not sure if comand 4.0 in a 2010 will support that. only hack was BT audio.

dsayed 06-02-2014 04:36 PM

Works with my 5s. Perhaps the head unit needs updated firmware? I have not updated the head unit since I got the car in 2012 and it has worked with an iPhone 4s and now 5s.
