New Nitto Invos / Euro-26 Wheels - Humming Noisey

Anyone have any clue to resolve this?

Just went back to the tire shop and they changed the original "Ball" Lugs to "Acorn" lugs which the Euro-26's take and hope that would do it. Could it be bad tires, hubcentric issues, wheels, balance? I was told the Nitto Invos were supposed to be quiet and paid extra for that reason, but the fronts hum quite a bit from 50mph-65mph. No vibrations although I feel it slightly at the pedal.

A little irritated; new car, new wheels, new tires and degraded sound quality. However, I will say it actually rides vey nice on these tires.

Any suggestions?

Anyone else with this set up? Should I re-balance? Check alignment again after the H&R drop?

not trying to be rude, but just get used to them......
I put some new meats on mine too a couple of weeks ago....(PS3)
and they are kind of louder than the PS2's, but oh well.......

I got used to it, don't even notice now!
it's funny isn't it? how tires can affect our ride?

Yeah, I was trying to suck it up, but I honestly think something is not right. I've researched these tires quite a bit and based on reviews, tread pattern and specs they should be fairly quiet in which they actually are. Ride quality and sound quality are actually really good until I reach 50+mph that is and when I reach that speed is when I hear it in the front "only". It's a humming sound along with a fast "wawawawa" sound like a bad wheel bearing.
I've had tons of cars/euro cars old and new lightly and extremely modified and ive heard bad wheels, bad tires, bad wheel bearings, cheap tires etc...just always hard to determine which one it is especially on a new car. At least I can rule out wheel bearing.

Looks like I will have the wheels rebalanced and car re-aligned and go from there before pointing to the tires or even rims. I did take note of the really bad rim packaging. The rims barely made it here alive. Boxes where shredded and to my surprise had no packing inside. they were scuffed, but don't think they lost integrity, but never know could have been dropped and now visually unnoticeably bent.

You might want to try rotating and see if the noise follows the wheels / tires. I would also have a reputable tire "guy" take a ride with you....they do it for a living so you would hope they would have some insight. Good luck and let us know what's up

its def tires. dont waste your money doing an alignment or balance. the reason i know is bc we had a customer with a 221 who had those nittos and he was complaining a humming noise when driving at fwy speeds. we swapped the wheels and boom noise gone. problem solved

Have you taken the front wheels off and checked for unusual wear mark on the tires or rubbing marks on the wheel well plastic liner . The noise your talking about sounds like your tires are rubbing on something. The reason I said that is because the set up i have in the front is 245/35/20. I guess the 35 series tire was slightly high and the inside was rubbing on the base of the strut. Trust me you'll know if you wheels are bent. You'll feel the steering wheel shimmy if its in the front and you'll feel vibrations on seats if it the back wheels. It went away eventually cause it worn out lol...Good luck Hope this helps.

The width is 8.5 and im not sure what the exact offset is, I think its 37. I had 235/35 and the wall was slightly stretched and it just cleared the strut.

Exactly. So how did you manage to fit 245/35 (which is 3/10" (8mm) taller)?

Please!!! stop yelling!!! Sir, I think you only a read word or two out of the whole paragraph I wrote, but its ok it happens. Ok so let me tell u what you missed and the reason why I suggested for him to do just that is because and I quote "the set up i have in the front is 245/35/20. You mention all the things I would check, but have they all been covered? It's not clear whether you got the car aligned after lowering it already. Are the lugnuts tight? I had a similar problem before on a different car when the lugs weren't properly tightened. Were hubcentric rings used?

If it's not something simple like loose lugs or a bad balance job, you could have a defective tire. I would never consider an oscillating tire sound to be normal. If it were just a case of a loud tire, it would be a constant hum, whine, or roar at speed.

I have however had an oscillating sound when rotating a badly cupped, heel/toe wear tire to the front, which is another thing that may point to a defective tire.

Where did you go to get the tires mounted/balanced?

Wheels are staggered so I am just going to install one factory wheel at a time till I can pin point a wheel.

Thx. I'm going to install the front stockers and take note. Interesting how its only the front. Especially when turning. Swear if the car wasn't new and didn't just install the wheels and tires I would say its a wheel bearing!
After installing the front I'm going to listen for the rear.

I agree. Car was aligned, but I don't think properly as it pulls slightly. I am having it re-aligned especially now that its settled.

Re-torqued lugs myself after finding out Americas tire Co over torqued them. Hub rings not necessary as the euro-26's are hub centric.

Sounds like a cupped/defective tire to me and I am determined to get to the bottom of it! Hopefully this endeavor of mine will help someone else with similar issues!

Next step is Hunter Road Force Balance. Heard this has solved some unique issues.

Does anyone know what the little circle colored dot on the sidewall of new tires are for? I think I read somewhere its to indicate where the valve stem should or should not go to balance the wheel out??

Update...

So I took the car back to America's to have them Road Forced and sure enough returned the same.

At this point, was willing to buy new tires and rims if necessary, so I took the vehicle to Les Schwab for an alignment and to see if they can diagnose the vibration/sound and sure enough bad left front tire.

Now I'm back at Americas installing a new replacement tire. Wish me luck!

If the Nitto Invo's have a reputation of being noisy tires i wouldn't know, but i can tell you this. Ive had my share of wheels/low pro tires and it comes with the territory! Low pro tires just produce much more road noise over stock.
