Wait a minute, you've had your w211 for 2 months and now want to dump it for a 2010 E550?

Well smart one, that's exactly what and why I asked. In other words, so why the F... did you "just purchased" W211 in the first place? Wait, do not answer, I really do not want to know.

too bad, power of the internet............ i purchased it cause i liked the w211 for a long long time.....i had an 09 s2000 that took a poop, fixed it , then took a poop again (long story short) so i had a friend who owned dealerships and the w211 was in his inventory. So being that he was a friend he took my broken s2000 and traded me the w211 p2.... nice friend huh....... sooo now i am liking the w212 a lot more now that i see them time to time on the road.

if your friend owns multiple dealerships and he swapped out a broken car to a w211, it'll be a no brainer to get the w212 e550 now and he'll probably give you keys for the new 2014 e550 in couple months again .

With Mercedes Financial blowing out leases in the last 2 years, your friend can probably pick up a few W212 from auctions all day long.

No thanks. I like to own MBs with some factory warranty. Hope you don't find out why. Buying your way means no CPO LIMITED WARRANTY. Hope the price is out of this world and you don't inherit previous owners problems or accidents.

Even with your relationship, you really want to get into a car that has some type of extended warranty.

AFAIK, Airmatic was standard on W211 and 2010/2011 W212 E class V8 cars. In 2012 the engine changed from the naturally aspirated M113/M273 to the new 4.6L M157 twin-turbo V8. Also starting in 2012 Airmatic was no longer standard on the V8 E class cars - sadly, 4Matic was. I say sadly on 4Matic because I live in an area where it really isn't needed and it carries weight (roughly 150 lbs.) and parasitic drag penalties, both of which affect fuel economy.

My 2004 E500 had one leaky "air spring" replaced early in its life - I kept it for seven years and didn't have another problem. At a little over one year, my 2011 E550 needed to have two leaking rear "air springs" replaced. Time will tell if the replacement parts are as good as the ones used on my 2004.

Difference between 550 and 350 is day and night.

Besides, having real leather and now standard airmatic, there's another core difference : Torque.

Also, going by my experience, with my 380HP E550, 420 HP 6.0L GTO and the 480 HP 6.2L C63, your wallet and rear tires won't like you.

RWD and V8 only. The only way to "drive"...

the purchase of my first W212 was a battle of the mind... I wrestled between the gas or diesel option on an E350. Test drove them both, worked spreadsheets on annual fuel / maintenance costs, etc... Ended up choosing the Bluetec as I thought the car was more responsive with all of that torque. City and highway acceleration were (IMHO) much better than the gas engine and the bluetec never felt like it was working.

Fast forward a couple weeks after purchase I had serious buyers remorse for not getting the 550. The Bluetec satisfied my mind but did nothing for the heart. I contacted my dealer and walked back out with a 550 P2 car and couldn't be happier. Dealer treated me very well and only lost the sales tax on the Bluetec and got a good price on the 550. 2+years and 26,000 miles later I couldn't be happier with the choice. The V8 give this car more "smiles per mile" than the V6 version ever thought about. The power is effortless when crusing at 60mph or 100mph. The car always has more when you want / need it. There is also a slight feeling of exclusivity with the 550 badge as I live in SoCal and 350's are very common. (I was at a stop light in NewPort Beach a few weeks ago and 7/10 cars we MB's!) the P2 options, leather, airmatic, etc... All make this car a real gem.

I was planning to trade for another in 14/15 but now that the v8 option is off the table and I really don't like this new neutered body style.....I'll either keep the 550 until something major goes wrong or swap out for a CLS. The 10-12 body style (to me) was the perfect blend of edgy angular design and classic MB good looks. The softer edges of the front end and muted angles really don't do it for me on the new cars. Oh...and I love my hockey stick DRL's compared to the flat bars or round lamps.

Everythings relative...............

Living in Maine, AWD is the only way to go.

Given my choice of road and weather, my wife's Subaru Impreza (NOT the WRX, just the ordinary one) will leave any RWD in the dust (or snow, in this case.)

Looking forward to picking up my E550 in September.....

My first MB was a 2011 E350. One year later I traded it in for a 2010 550. The difference is night and day.

I agree with everything Pntblnk says. My only question was how does the 5 1/2 liters compare to the diesel. I know now.

Hands down I would look for a 2011 E550. Can't go wrong with that one.

I have almost 48 000 miles on my car now. I have the CPO warranty on it until end of September 2014 but I'm already planning to purchase another extension to the warranty from MB. This would extend it another two years to end of September 2016 and 130 000 miles.

This car with all the options P2 came with at the time is just awesome. And as an icing on the cake I have the Driver's assistance package too.

Just an FYI, the M157 is the AMG motor, the M278 is the 4.6L bi turbo found in the 2012+ 550 models

Overall Maint. costs

Hi guys, I'm brand new to this site, but not to my love of Benz's. I've been researching the cars for at least a year now and I really want to buy a used Benz in the near future. So I was wondering what the overall maintenance cost difference is between the V6 vs. V8?

I don't know for sure, but I do have a 2012 E550.

I would assume that for regular maintenance, there wouldn't be a big difference in cost. EG, I just changed the transmission fluid and filter, and I would think that job would be similar on the E350. Oil and Air filter changes would be similar. 2 more spark plugs on a spark plug change, but you get the point. I'm sure those with more experience will chime in with a better reply.

Good luck on your search.

2013 E550 Sedan, 2005 E500 4matic Wagon
If you are missing the "i think i just wet myself" but not an AMG "i definitely wet myself" feeling go with the 550. Effortless 1/4 throttle passing power.
i went from a E500 wagon (to which i thought was fast enough for a wagon) to the 550 and i was/am blown away every time i get in. I go for drives just to drive. I was lucky enough to find one without airmatic. The wagon is already in my wallet for air issues and i like the thought that im not going through that again....albeit an awesome ride with air.
go with your gut.

As mentioned above, the big difference is probably airmatic. It was standard in some years and an option in other years. I think maybe standard in 2010/2011 and an option afterwards. No E550 after 2014, at least in the US, then there was the E400. The airmatic is a lot more money to repair, but then again, I'm in the middle of doing my front springs/struts and those parts alone are in the $700 range, haven't fully added it up yet and haven't done them yet, just got parts. But the difference is that springs/struts wear out slowly, the airmatic when you have a leak, it's too low and you can't drive it. The E350's are much easier to find, the E550s sometimes I think people just want too much money for them and because there are few on the market sometimes they get it. I would look more for a 2016+ E350 as that had Apple Carplay/Android Auto. Just depends what your budget is though, the 2016 will be more money than a 2010. In 2012+ the engines got a boost in power so the 2012 E350 will have 302hp instead of the 268hp in the 2010-2011 E350.
