As you are aware these days the 2010 Auto China motor show is going on and every manufacturer is releasing exclusive China-only models to please this ever-growing market. Here’s Mercedes’ gift for the Chinese which is a long wheelbase version of the 2010 E-class. Actually Mercedes had to do it since BMW recently unveiled the long version of the new 5-Series for China.

What sets this model apart from the rest of the E-Class range is, obviously, the length which is slightly over 5 meters. So it offers a wheelbase of around 3 meters and that means it’s 140mm longer than the normal models sold everywhere else.
Now that the rear passengers have lots more legroom to enjoy, Mercedes also hook’em up with extra toys such as electric panoramic sliding sunroof, COMANDAPS with DVD changer, THERMATIC air conditioning system, heated rear seats and residual heat system. The E 300 Avantgarde also features a Rear Seat Entertainment System (two large 20.3 cm screens in the backs of the front seat head restraints), KEYLESS-GO electronic drive authorisation system and remote boot closing.
The long wheelbase Mercedes E-class will be available as E260 CGI ELEGANCE, E260 CGI AVANTGARDE and E300 AVANTGARDE with 204 and 245 hp and automatic gearbox. The engines and suspension in this model is specially tuned to provide maximum comfort. It comes with AGILITY CONTROL suspension with selective damping system as standard, and also speed-dependent service brake and direct steer system.
The car is also packed with safety features, Unique features include the PRE-SAFE® occupant protection
system, Rear Seat Safety package with belt force limiters on the outer seats and rear side airbags, as well as ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection. A luggage compartment volume of 540 liters and a compact turning circle of 11.25 meters also represent class-leading values for this segment.

Interesting car for sure...liked it when they offered the LWB and SWD S's here in the 70s/80s early 90s and the 1 year in 2000s.
Any to the OP, I haven't done it myself but read on this forum you can do the switch and its pretty much plug and play except it is very difficult to make it auto fold when you lock the car (needs reprogramming from germany). But replacing the parts and then folding them using the button I read on here is possible without too much effort.
Again I haven't seen it done myself but if you search on here you should find someone who has. In the USA they don't even give us that option on the E...

There seems to be some mixed opinion about whether switching out the parts will work or not. I saw one person state that everything works except for auto-folding, and another stated that he could not get it to work without adding an external switch? I have all the parts but I am waiting for additional information before I try it.
