Retrofit Split Folding Rear Seats

Well, I completed 90% my retrofit of the rear folding seats. All I have left to do is to connect my 6 wire harness to the 2 4 wire harnesses on the folding rear backrests. I have the rear deck shelf to install, but I may wait on that, not a real issue unless/until, I trade the car in (on a 2013 E550 in a few years)

I removed:
the non-folding backrest
the locking mechanisms for the backrest

I installed:
folding seat retractable locking mechanisms with cables and handles
Split-Folding rear backrest
(Reinstalled) my rear bench seat pad

Researching the wiring harnesses, trying to find out if they are simply wiring for lowering the headrests? Does anyone know?

I have included a few pics attached
1 rear bench seat removed for later re-installation
2 stock seat backrest locking mechanisms
3 Retractable locking mechanisms installed
4 Folding seats in standard position
5 Folded view of one seat
6 non-folding seat wiring harness (Left) and split-folding seat harness on right (anyone have the wiring diagram for these connectors or know where to find them in WIS?)

Very nice Nuru, looks factory installed for what you've done so far. I am always using my folding seats for something or another.

The rear deck is the cover on the metal frame just behind the top of the rear seats. See attached pic

There is more than just lowering the head rests on cars that come from factory with the folding seats.

Each seat back has a limit switch (I think reed switch) for both upright and folded positions. These switches tell the system to move front seats forward when you pop the lock for the seat back. They also tell the system if you drive and seatback is not locked in place, i.e. if the folded position limit switch does not see the folded position and at the same time the locked position switch is not activated either.

Yep, that is why I am reviewing the wiring diagram to see how much I can configure.

E550
Don't know if it applies to 2012 350, but for 2011 E550 there is a bug in the software re: rear seats folded down.

When you lower the passenger side rear seat, the front passenger seat automatically moves completely forward to allow clearance. After the rear seat is completely down, all that clearance is not needed. So you want to move the passenger seat back so a human can sit in it. BUT THE SYSTEM HAS FROZEN THE PASSENGER SEAT IN THE FULL FORWARD POSITION. A chihuahua can sit in it, but that's all.

The tech had to change the software to allow the passenger seat to be moved into position so a Golden Retriever (or my wife) can sit in it.

Yes, the button on the dash will lower both rear headrests on my 2010 E350.

Thanks samking, an additional question, what about the center headrest, does the switch have any impact upon that one?

Nuru - I do not see any connections between the button on the dash and the middle headrest. I only see the two outside headrests going down when I push the button.

Oh ok, so your middle hadrest is totally manual, correct?

I did this before on my former 2008 C300 and it was not that hard. The E350, was actually easier to disassemble than the C300 was. Getting the wiring reworked is what I need to do next and I will hopefully find the wiring diagram tonight or this week sometime, and start the required mods on Saturday.
