What is the obsession with changing the taillights? Not being a douche I just really want to know. Also does it add any value for when you sale or trade in?

I agree with you. There is nothing like OEM when it comes to real quality and fit. The aftermarket lamps are only for those who want to be different than stock. I guess everyone has their sweet spot on how much mods to do.
The more modding you do, the less you get on resale. That's mostly a fact.

They are BEAUTIFUL!! As simple as that. I have NEVER got less for one of my builds because they are moded. That is plain silly. At least here in Europe. I usally get more. I am facelifting my cars because I Think it is SO much better looking than Before FL. And I dont understand why some gets so iritated by that? Always been so since I started to do it for about an 20 years ago. And most Think OEM is so SUPER quality. Where do you Think they where made? Today almost ALL parts on a MB are made in China and have the same "bad" quality as for example you Think Depo have.

Thanks for sharing your insight. I agree nothing compares to OEM in quality. I had some aftermarket TLs on my C32 and they did eventually fade. Not sure if they were depo. I've heard putting a silicon bead around the housing will help with condensation, dust, etc to prolong the life. Would a good wax not help the exterior? I always keep my OEMs just in case problems occur also to give the choice of taillights if and when I sell my cars.

The updated Tail lamps I have on my E550 are made in Taiwan by Eagle Eye and seem to be much higher quality than the C32 TLs. Are you familiar with that brand and the leds/boards they use?

I have zero problems with functionality and they look great but really too new to tell. Get thumbs up from other passing PF owners all the time. Hoping they last.

the rest of the story ...you can imagine , but for me OEM its OEM and dont compare to anything else

BTW depo headlamps i guess they have drive control boxes for leds ....wich fail ...wich you can t get spare parts

Cheers !

I don't know that it's an obsession or more of personal taste. To me they look ALOT better and the LED bands updates the PF w212 more in line with the latest models' taillights of all models, S class all the way down to C and CLA. The stocks are nice but imo the updated lights are just beautiful. I used to think the rear was somewhat boring but after the new TLs, trunk lip and roof spoiler i'm always checking out that ***.

Aftermarket parts aren't for everyone. The more you personalize or mods performed does carve a certain niche of potential buyers. You may get more or possibly haggled for less. Usually other car enthusiasts will appreciate
your work but not everyone. I think it's always a good thing to keep the OEM just in case you wanna put it back to normal or quality starts to regress.

Agreed with the quality, never had any issues with fit. Interestingly enough, I had a gearhead neighbor that would buy modded cars and put them back to stock and sell them for higher than what he bought the modded cars for. Then sell the mod parts.

I got more for my C32 with my minor mods. It's all about taste. I think MB's are too nice for crazy mods. If people want to mod their MB as they probably did with Japanese rides, so be it, more power to them. What'd you do and what'd you gain? I think MBs are classy but subtle changes are a nice touch.. subjective tho.

Problem with facelift tail light

Hi all. My name is Henrik and I am from Denmark and I'm new at this forum.
I just bought a new facelifted bumper for my s212 e class 200 from 2010 (w212 stationcar) and then my tail lights did not fit the bumper so I bought some new facelift original mb tail light and then my signals are making problems and starts to signal with the brake lights and the lights in the boot lid is making even more trouble. I can read that some other guys in here had the same problems.
Does anybody know how to fix this? I hope that it is possible to find some wire harness with built in resistance. But I do not know what and where to buy?

The problem is that the old tail lights has ordinary glow bulb and the new is led. So they will signal 2 or 3 times and then signal with the brake lights instead because the dash board computer thinks the bulb is not working since the led is using less power. So the car uses the brake light instead and writes in the dashboard display that the turn signal has a default bulb.
That's Mercedes. If a bulb is not working then the car is smart enough to use another bulb or led light. In my case it uses the brakelight.
I have seen that carpartstuning.com has some tail light for the sedan that fits pre facelift cars with facelifted bumper and also facelifted models. So I have written a mail to them and asked if they could help me with a converting wirring harness and I am also asking here and other places.

I really hoped that someone had the same problem and got it fixed and reads this and will help me.

Maybe it is a matter of finding some resistors and put them on?

They can NOT help you. This is a totally different thing. The ones for sedan is MADE for this purpose and not made to the wagon. You can always look into my threads...You need to both rewire and do alot of coding to make it work...There are NO converter wire kits.

I know that the set from kitt are for the sedan and are not original.
I have read your threads about repinning and coding.
Is it not possible to just repin the tail light connectors and put a resistance between to take the signal from the old glow bulb?
I can't find anyone that sell tail light that's fits the old wirring with the new facelifted bumper. I can only find them for sedan.
And I really like to use original.
I can't find anyone that has done the repinning on the stationcar.

from driving it for 3 years i can tell you the only benefit is when you back up because the LEDs are so bright you can literally see everything behind you when you back up

Ive done several stationcars and doing it right now on my E63 wagon. No..Resistors dont work since its mixing daylight and brakelight on different places and so on..You have to repin both the big and small ones. Simplest way is just to try out wich pins are wich by taking the old out and try. Then you pin it the best you can from that and the rest you code so it lights up corectly and then you need to code so you dont get the errors.

My $0.02, I've found that Depo headlights/taillights are very, very good and worth the money, although to the best of my knowledge they keep them strictly as OEM design copies. I would not discount aftermarket lighting entirely; I bought a set of Korean-designed, Chinese built taillights for a Sonata that looked and worked better than the originals for 6 years and were working fine when I sold the car.

This thread is fairly old; I wonder if anyone has experience with -recently released- "facelift-like" taillights for pre-facelift W212's?

I bought these 2 years ago. Easy to install and no issues at all.
