2014 E Class Light Upgrade

Hey Guys, i just bought 2014 e class 350 couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, i didn't get the one with premium lighting package. Is there any other way for me to upgrade my light? THANK YOU!! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=3&theater

im sure it is possible but expect to pay alot for labor at the dealer...it might be like adding pano roof to a car...personally the lighting package makes the new eclass unique

Adding a pano roof to a standard sunshade car is possible??

I'm not sure about the new facelift models, but if you do not have xenon lights I'm sure you can upgrade existing ones to HID for a reasonable price..

Anything can be added. You can weld on a new roof panel and add the pano roof. It'll probably cost more than a new car but it is possible.

Adding the lighting package will most likely be the same - possible but unreasonably expensive.

You cannot legally upgrade the lighting on a pre facelift for a reasonable price. While technically still illegal, you can retrofit the entire HID system from a P2 car.

PANO ROOF retrofit, Yes it is for a ton of money.

Upgrade to Xenon lights depends on how you do it. Retrofit - expensive, trade up to a CPO or new model with those lights installed - expensive, 3rd party - cheap.

Let's try to stay on topic, Pano Roof and Xenon lights are way off topic.

To get back on Topic, I think the upgrade may be as simple as a headlight swap. You may not even have to incur any labor costs and if so it may not be that much. I would talk to the representative in the parts department at your dealership.

Price a headlight assembly. You will be shocked. My wife had a minor accident and one headlight assembly had to be changed. Parts.......$2,200.00.

Retrofitting is not that simple as you need to get additional items like the sensors in the wheel wells for the pre-facelift cars and I dunno what else you need for the FL (Face Lift) cars.

It was not as simple as a headlight swap on the pre-FL cars, so I would imagine that it is not that simple on the FL cars either.

Especially if the FL cars also include the cornering lights, then you need to add more than just the headlight assemblies.

That's completely wrong.

1. Where is the sensor for the auto highbeams?
2.How does the headlight know where to point? Magic?
3.Where is the wiring? the computer box to run all that?
4.Who is going to install all that without labor?

You are forgetting that pre-FL cars were Halogen Vs Bi-Xenon while the 2014 is LED Vs Adaptive LED. So in fact it may be as simple as a headlight swap. To get the adaptive LED to function will take more, but I am sure that none of the pre-FL guys that upgraded their headlights have adaptive headlights.

1. He did not ask for auto high beams (pre-FL guys that upgraded never asked for it either)
2. See #1.
3. PROBABLY the same. PROBABLY! I never stated anything as FACT!
4. Perhaps... the same guy that is asking the original question! :slap:
I never stated anything as fact, I was just suggesting that it may be that simple, so if he was to put in the research then the answer may be cheap and easy... or not... DUH!

If he doesn't get adaptive highbeams and adaptive lighting, then what does he get from the lighting package?

Both of those require sensors, wiring and control units that don't exist in the base car.

Methinks you've spent too much time in the hot Vegas sun :)

You obviously dont know the difference between the two headlights.
Methinks you didn't spend enough time in any kind of education facility.

OK, hotshot, why don't you tell all of us about the differences between the lighting systems.

OTOH, you could just quietly slink away from this thread with your reputation semi-intact.

thanks guys! it helps me a lot

Where this thread hasn't been illuminating, it has become very entertaining.

CHRSTAN ... If it's only been a couple of weeks, it might be less expensive to go back to your dealer and swap the car you have and a few $$$ for the model with the active lighting system. It will sure save you any/all future heartache and anguish.

First, this video shows what the lighting package really is:

Yes, Hella provides it the MB and I believe BMW.

It is probably possible. However, this is a $1500 MSRP option. My guess is it would be closer to $4k in pieces which would include rewiring in the interior.

If you don't have it, I wouldn't worry. Virtually no one will know. It may be cheaper to get the dealer to swap cars, especially if it is an ordered car that hasn't been delivered.

Sorry I dont have the time to spoon feed you. I assume that you are a grown man/woman, look it up yourself, we have even discussed the differences between the headlight here on the forum.
Perhaps you should know a little something about a topic before you jump in a thread pretending to be a "subject matter expert"

The headlights are brand new, so no one here has the answer you are seeking. I would suggest that if you are really interested in upgrading your headlights that you do some research on your own and maybe share what you learn with us.
It may be simple or it may be an overwhelming task. I believe that because both headlights are LED that there is a possibility it could be "plug and play" and all you may need is the headlight assembly and re-programing.
However, as we have seen before not even power folding mirrors are "plug and play" so it is unlikely to be that easy with Mercedes.

DavidNJ 07-06-2013 03:07 AM

The cameras are on the rear view mirror. Not quite sure how MB has it wired or wired in conjunction with the other camera applications. The assemblies use the adaptive headlight motors, is the stock car even wired for that? If I recall MB uses different wiring harnesses based on the options ordered. In 2003, it forced them to replace cars ordered with navigation before it was available rather than add it as the owners had been told.

You should have just quit replying to this thread. Your current post is in direct contradiction to your previous ones and it is obvious to everyone who reads this thread that you don't know what you are talking about.

Internet 101 teaches you to stay out of threads that you know nothing about. Trying to talk your way out of a silly post by attacking other posters who call you on your error is childish and kills your reputation.

This post just shows how unintelligent you are. Because I never said I did!
I have been directing the OP to ask question and find out on his own because no one here knows the answer. Talking about the pre-FL car has nothing to do with the 2014. :slap:
Directing the OP to trade in his car without at least a little research just for some different headlight is simply Moronic!
How much experience do you have with the 2014... if the answer is "none" then... you should take this opportunity to STFU! :y

The lights are a nice feature. Trading in is an option, especially if the car hasn't been delivered. If it has, the dealer could probably unload it for a couple of thousand below an new one. It may cost the buyer $4k-5k do to the deal (maybe less), but that is probably no more than buying the components, having the dealer change them, and be open to warranty issues (since it is a modification to the car, not as delivered, and I don't believe MB has a retrofit program).

The lights are a nice feature. Worth $1500? Absolutely. Worth $5k for 3 years on a lease (it wouldn't be residualized on a modification)? It is up to the individual.

Note: our 2005 came with the Soprano trunk release and no trunk valet lock. We had the lock retrofitted when the valet lock became available. That let me park it in NYC garage with things in the trunk.

Question is, do you not already have your new E? Just curious based on your pic. If not, I'd work hard to find an identical one with the headlights cause you'll never be satisfied until you find one. If yes, either you can upgrade which is expensive (have to check with your dealer to get a general feel before working off on your own) or you maybe somehow trade it in but that'll usually incur a large loss if it's been driven off the lot already.
