Extended Warranty

I know this has been discussed before, but has anyone purchased one lately?
I am only interested in one from MBUSA. Last quote I had was about $3,000 for three years or an extension from 4 year/50,000 miles to 7 years and 125,000 miles.
Only drive about 3,000 miles per year, but I have had some pretty expensive work done under warranty in last few years. Concered about some big ticket items in the future.
I contacted MBUSA, but they referred me to the dealer to discuss pricing.
:nix:
Thanks.

The last Mercedes roadside assistance guy who saw me told me that he buys used MBs and buys his extended warranties through Costco. He's a mechanic at the dealership.

Contact Dan Boone @ MB of Austin, he can sell you a heavily discount MB warranty.

I got a 7yr/75k mile warranty from him for about 40% off what my dealer wanted.

Several others in the off topic discussion also have bought from Dan.

I bought a 7/100 MB extension for mine for $2880 over the phone from Erin @ MB of Santa Rosa as I intend NOT to have big repair bills with my newly face lifted 2014 E350 with ALL the electronics and safety systems. MUCH less than the local dealers quoted ~$5400+

What was your starting / final price?

Keep 'me coming as I'm in the same boat with my '11 550. I have another ~9 months to pull the trigger and decided against the CLS so just starting to shop around.

Local dealer quote on a 2011 C300 7yr/75k a little under $4k, Dan, $2,036
Local dealer quote on a 2013 E350 wagon 7yr/75k a little over $4k, Dan $2,131

Keep in mind the local dealer quotes were if the warranty was purchased with the car. If you purchase the warranty 30 days after the initial car purchase, MB charges a fee. The quotes from Dan includes that fee. So had I found Dan before I bought the car, or within 30 days of buying the cars, the prices would've been another couple hundred less.

Very useful information, thanks "thenew3". Mine is 6K off the 50K warranty and have started to think about the costs, so good to know.

Thanks to this thread -- just bought a 7/100k from Dan Boone at Austin MB for $2880.00 -- with written guarantee that I get my full money back if I get rid of the car before 4/50k, and pro-rated thereafter.

$2880.00 seems like that could be the cost of 1 problem after my comprehensive factory warranty is up! Glad I got this -- lots of peace of mind.

Thanks again

Great advice here, same boat with my '11 550, been looking at extending the warranty if i dont buy a new S before it runs out....2880 isnt bad at all!

My car is a 2010 E550. Bought it as a CPO so it had the one year extension up to 100000 miles. Just added the two extra years up to 135000 miles for $2639 and some cents.

With my driving mileage and time will be very close to go out at the same time.

I think a $2639 MB extended warranty for additional two years is a bargain. They would not offer this if they didn't know they make money with it as obviously they trust their own quality but in that rare occasion when the sh.. hits the fan it can save you very big bugs.

I guess it is a risk to take. You have to average how much you drive per year and if you buy extended and you will not be driving past 100kilometers then you might think twice paying for something you might not use. I think the extended is worth getting if your car is past 100k. That's usually when things starts to go.

I dunno man, things start to go at anytime after 50k .. my parents have had benz vehicles for years and always bought warranties .. window motor @ 55k miles, $500 saved, 4-matic issue, $2k saved.. the list goes on and on...

in general, warranties are things you buy and should forget you spent money on once the purchase is made UNTIL the day you made it. I divorced myself from the $2880 the minute I bought my 7yr/100k warranty .. otherwise dwelling on it's rationale is counter-intuitive to peace of mind. Now I am going to drive this car without significant concern of sh-t breaking down and me being obligated to fork over big dough .. it's covered and there's no rush for me to dump the car after the warranty period.

Same car, same deal as well Arrie! Peace of mind.

A friend bought another warranty from Dan Boone at MB of austin -- thanks again for the referral to him!

In Canada most of the dealers are corporate owned. Are there any Canadians that can share some pricing on MB extended warranties?

C230Brit 11-12-2013 04:51 PM

Just FYI, since I am shopping for extended warranty on my 2010 E550 Coupe:
Local dealer give me:

Extend warranty for:
1 year or up to 75,000 miles: $2,141
2 years or up to 75,000 miles: $2,534
3 years or up to 100,000 miles: $4,532

Pre-Paid maintenance:
2 services: $729
3 services: $1088

Thoughts? From what I have read that others have posted, this appears pretty reasonable / comparable...Likely I will go with the 2 year warranty.

Thanks,

Rich

Try Erin Mahre at MB of Santa Rosa, CA. I got an amazing deal for my 2014.

Ask around... I'm thinking that's still way too high... call Austin Tx mercedes and speak with their finance guy...

2yr 160,000 is 3200
3rd year major component only is 3650

I'm finding it hard to get any discounts. Let me know if you fare any better.

Try MB Westwood or MB Hyannis (both Prime Motor Group dealerships). It may save a bit more than what you currently posted. It should not matter which dealer it's purchased from as long as its a MB dealer it should be honored at all dealers here in Mass. but I cant guarantee that.

El Cid 11-13-2013 04:49 PM

The mileage was not important to me, but I got 3 years through dealer for $2,889. Mileage was at least 75,000.

Lol, I haven't gotten that far yet, I am having a challenge for them to accept my offer. Currently looking at all options, outside of mb dealers as the prices are better. MB does have good finance rates right now

Dema 11-14-2013 11:11 PM

When I look how much warranty cost and calculate my repairs I can conclud I spent a little less. But sure for sleeping better you can buy it.

2006_C350 11-14-2013 11:22 PM

What about on the new 2014 with that ECO start/stop thing? You don't think your car has a higher chance of having a problem?
