A few things/options I wish the E offer.
There are three options I wish the E have available.
Not in order of importance.
1. Power Folding side mirrors. I just like power folding mirrors
2. Rear door sun screens/shades. Important once you have kids sitting in the back. Even with tint, the sunlight still get in.
3. Heads-up display. This is just a cool feature to have.
I know bmw 5 series have all these features.
What options do you guy wish your E have?
Not in order of importance.

2. Available for the wagon. I think it's available for the sedan in other markets too ( not sure).
3. I agree 100%. I drove a rental car with a HUD and it was nice to drive around and never have to look down to see my speed.
In addition to your list here is mine.
4. Passenger multicontour seat.
5. Rear seat climate control.
6. Soft close doors.
7. A nav screen that is bigger than my phone.

As for the rear door sunshades, I knew the wagon has it. I was talking about sedans.
And man, I forgot about the soft close doors! I miss that feature on my old w220 S. Since the doors are so damn heavy, you really have to slam it to get it closed. And my passengers, out of being courteous, never really close the door the first time because they didn't want to slam the doors on a nice Benz.

Auto-open/close for trunk by waving your foot under the bumper.
For pete sake this feature is available in the Ford Escape!
Programmable preset buttons. This is available in BMW and I find it useful to set them to launch your favorite features like call home/wife, launch NAV guidance to go home etc.
The auto folding side mirrors is standard here in Canada.
As already mentioned the NAV screen needs to be wider (8~10").
I have to turn off the display for the highway POI info as otherwise the map display is reduced to less than my Cell phone's display!
The extra-wide display in the BMW allows you to configure dual display to suite your needs.
You can have the Map on one side (6") and display some other info on the rest of the screen (3") like your music listing/map display in different scale or perspective etc.

2014 E350 Wagon
I think the issue you raise is Americans want to have their cake and eat it too. Or should I say they want to have all the goodies but they also refuse to pay the price for said goodies.
For example the E-350 Wagon that I ordered had an MSRP of $75,700. The same car in Europe with identical options would have been $128,000!!! So I can accept the fact that MBUSA cut out the power folding mirrors for the US market.
It's easy to say that MBUSA should have a full a-la-carte ordering system like MB has in Europe but I think the problem would be cost. Logistically it would be far more difficult to have inventory managed for 300+ different options than it is for half a dozen. It would have cost associated with it and the benefit would not be much when probably close to 90% of new E-classes are sold from dealer inventory and not special ordered. Dealers would never order the folding mirrors or the passenger massage seats. There is just no demand for it. And for the real car enthusiast like us it would be cost prohibitive. Actually there are a handful of SPC options that can be ordered for $250 SPC fee plus the cost of the option.
One of these is the rear side sunshade for $380 + $250 SPC fee for a total of $630. Is the rear sunshade worth 1% more on a car where people are trying to haggle the price down between 5-6%? Is it also worth the extra 8-10 week wait time? You tell me.
- Power folding mirrors are available in Canada and Europe
- Rear side sunshades are available in the US for $630 on special order sedans and are part of the P01 package on the wagon.
- Three zone climate control is available in Europe and Canada
- Passenger dynamic multicontour seat is available in Europe for $1,750 for driver and passenger seats. In the US it's $660 for driver only, you can see how good we have it.
- Foot triggered auto open/close for trunk is available as of 6/13 in the US as 389pkg for $990 including Keyless-GO and power trunk close (I'm getting it on mine). In Europe it's also available as part of the Keyless-Go plus power liftgate plus hands free open for the sedan for $1,980.
- I think there are two programmable preset buttons or only one if you have the dynamic multicontour seats, see page 27 of the COMMAND manual.

My biggest gripe is not having HUD and may be vacuum doors .There should have been Night Package for W212s that makes darker rear windows same as W176 and C117 ,Sun Protection Package serves the purpose for it though
Night assist also seems not available with the FL 212s

Agree on the heads up display...cool *and* useful.A small thing that annoys the hell out of me is that I can't have full control of my headlights as one has in a BMW.Having the lights go on when entering a well lit garage, which I do frequently,is silly. Also agree with programmable buttons...they were very handy in my "d".Lastly, the ability to import MP3's easily and quickly onto the hard drive,as I could in my "d".I've had my CD collection converted to MP3's for years and getting them onto my "d's" hard drive took five minutes.Getting music onto my Bluetec's hard drive took weeks.

That's a good point to make and one that amazes me.A vehicle for which I paid less than $60K (US) goes for about twice that (again,US dollars) in places like Hong Kong,Singapore and Australia and almost twice as much in Europe. It can't be shipping costs so it's gotta be taxes.

You can have the trunk open/close by waving your foot. It comes with the keyless go package.
Side door shades are available via SPC. Mercedes has options for the car that are not listed in the brochure/online. You need to get a copy of the dealer order guide - search for it on here

Interestingly every complaint listed here is offered or mended on the BMW equivalent. Makes you think of the rare positive effects of focus groups i.e simply hearing what the top competition is lacking which its customer base wants and simply proactively applying it.

Another thing to be proud of is that MB salivates over a customer like you.
Standup Star is great though. Much better than the now-corporate generic Star grille. Seeing it on the hood is admittedly a nice feeling.

Rear climate can be ordered from factory. Too bad it used to be standard on the W211 550.
I would like to see a real sunshade for the roof. This see through crap is useless.

Uless that has changed for 2014, but yes my family loved it in our W211. Moving to the W212 felt like a downgrade.

I think you might be right about the rear climate. I'm positive you could order it in 2010 and 11 however. Looks like rear heated seats are still available though.

At the time I just could not comprehend why it was available in other markets and not for the US.
I could not understand why something that was made for the E-class couldn't be installed in a car if the customer wanted/demanded and was willing to pay whatever to get it.
I didn't understand why they couldn't just steal a W212 from the Canadian production line and sneak it over to the USA line. Lol
Buying an E class in Canada was a brief thought but I didn't research the possibility and just settled for my E.

+1 on the folding mirrors for US. I've been telling them to add not only that but the heads up display as well as the larger screen. My other compliant is that I would like the same climate controls as the CLS and MLs, I dislike the cheap look that's on the E classes and prefer the attractive knobs (plus, it's much better than rapid clicks to change temps). One main complaint I had on the previous E and my next is that for my panoroof I would like to still keep the cover on while opening the top to save on wind noise. Regular sunroofs have the cover but for panoroofs the cover has to be removed before you can operate the sunroof...
Okay, rant complete for now...

I am 100% positive it wasn't available for 2010/11. When I planned to trade in my W211 I demanded rear climate controls and threatened to buy a BMW (bluff) if I couldn't special order it.

hate to say it but the nav on the e class just stinks so a better nav system would be high on my list
for the price ventilated seats would be nice too
other than that i really love the car and even though a bmw may have those options i would still pick a mb every day of the week.
