Business consultant. My firm help companies see their full potential with the resources they have. No magic just common sense and a lot of hard work. but it pays off for both the company and for us. We are akin to firefighters but in the business world. We see fires and put them out while leaving no casualties but improvements.

Been retired for 10 years. I find the discussion around 'who can afford what' quite interesting. If you knew what some of the richest people in the world drive you'd be surprised. To many people it's what they feel is worth the price not what they can afford. Cars aren't high on the list of priorities for most people so spending more than necessary for a transportation appliance is a waste to them.

Optometrist and Used Car Dealer. Two opposites, but it adds variety to life. Drive 35k a year, had to have the distronic plus hence the 2010 E350 is the winner.

Perhaps it is a way to find business partners here. Anyone does a graphic design? Or MB is too ugly for a decent artistic eye?

Smile What do you do for a living?

I work in the "family business" and also a variety of other business and investments we own.
-Since 1900 we have owned a Flower Shop that does wholesaling to many green houses and stores around the northeast.
-I manage the 27 rental units(Apartments and Storefronts)
-I own and manage 100 storage units from 10X10's to full car storage.
-I am a silent partner in a Cigar shop.
-We also have a couple hair/tanning salons.

-All of our business are located in the NY State Capital Region area.

Long story short I am self employed.
Have Mercedes and other cars as well.
I have a Associates Degree, a Bachelors Degree, A Masters in Education/Administration and also a MBA in business Management.

That is because most of your very wealthy live all over the world and in many different countries and travel very often so instead of cars owned they either rent them or lease them along with yachts and jets and it makes much more sense given their situations.

I agree. Even in Beverly Hills & Bel Air though, I see a lot of my neighbors driving regular cars (Toyotas, Hondas, Fords, the like), but spending millions on homes and clothing from Barneys & Saks (total opposites, but they don't care about cars, I guess). Then again, most of them have a short commute time to work. On the other hand, I see "wannabe" sales people in the Beverly Hills customer service industry driving expensive cars on leases. It depends on what you want to prioritize.

Fully agree, amaycg. The MB we are getting is the first of our life, and will likely be no more reliable than the many well-engineered low cost cars that we have owned. On the other hand, one can get a high torque V8 engined car from Mercedes. Strong, smooth, V8's were once a staple of affordable American cars but are now much less available. The engine and transmission pretty much sold us on the car. The styling and ride not so much.

My friends and I have a small company (3 of us) that develops large power plants. No one wants to build one in Texas right now, so I've been pretty much retired for about 3 years now. Might do another one, might not.

I hate to tell you but Mr. Bernanke has nothing to do with your unemployment. He is just the head of the Fed.... More like what your trade is...what do you go to school for, etc, etc....and did you choose a major or trade that you can find a decent job....

CPA. Many people in my profession don't spend a lot on cars due to the depreciation, but it always feels good to me after a long day.
