quick update: Dealer is going to help on this. So, rather than just re-stitch the leatherette, they are going to replace the bottom cushion cover. I'll pay some portion but not much. I'll update post after everything is finished.

update: Dealer replaced the cushion cover and the cushion itself. MB covered 80%, dealer covered 10% and I paid 10%. It seemed fair.

Tears at the seam of MB tex GLKs are common and should be acknowledged as a factory defect by MB, but instead they have decided not to stand behind their product. Not impressive for a supposed quality manufacturer. Forums show there have been many failures after only a few years--basically unheard of in modern cars of other makes..

They would have been covered under the 4/50k new car warranty so that's the manufacturer standing behind their products for 4/50k. Many other less brands only do 3/36. There's about 30,000 parts in a car, even if you have 99% reliability, that still leaves you with 300 defects. So in reality, it's probably even higher than 99%.

Whole thing probably takes a first-timer maybe 30 minutes to do.

i bet you could get the part here online for a couple hundred bucks.

If you look up a thread i did called “seat pain”, you’ll see some photos to give you an idea of the process. Really is quite easy. Certainly NOT something a dealership needs to be involved with at their prices (unless if you can get warranty / good will coverage for it). If they suggest you chip in a few hundred bucks, then I’d say try it yourself first (they’re probably charging you for the seat cover itself and free labor which is ridiculously expensive for something like this).
Tried to do this today. Could not get the heater wire to unplug for the life of me. Any tips?

I finished replacing mine tonight. It took me forever to get the electrical plug for the heater undone. The Mexican guys video was awesome. I don't speak Spanish but his instruction was so good that I was able to learn how to do it.

Can someone help confirm the specific part number on https://www.mbdirectparts.com/ I would need to replace my front driver side MBTex black cover? This is a 2014 W212 Wagon (80k miles). VIN WDDHH8JB4EA905181.

Also, someone mentioned a great instructional video on YouTube. I'll search but a link would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I got so damn mad at that connector I cut the wires and spliced in about 5" when reinstalling the seat. Never did manage to get it disconnected.

Is this the correct version? LINK Just need the cover for the basic MBTex heated seats.

Thanks

To confirm, that is black MBTex? It does not have a description on any website, whereas 212-910-79-13-9D88 states the following:

DRIVER SEAT. without E63 AMG, without leather black. Sedan/wagon, without e63 amg, cloth, black.

First time I have ordered parts for a car, so apologies if I'm missing something obvious. Just seems confusing why there is a cheaper version with no description.

Thanks a lot

Looks like prices have gone up substantially for these seat covers....minimum appears to be $584 on the links referenced above.

Last month I purchased "MB-TEX" drivers lower from FCP Euro - $350... Genuine OEM. They only stock drivers not passenger from what I saw. Richmond auto upholstery Texas - $250 per side.

We went the Richmond route around Christmas on a 2016 E350. The quality was excellent, matching the seat upper & the passenger seat perfectly.

The installation took a couple of hours DIY, following the instructional video. I can recommend without reservation.

Can you link to the video? I'll be honest, I'm not sure I want to tackle it myself, but at least seeing what I'm in for will help make the decision.

Yes install took me about 2.5 hours bolt to bolt not a bad job. I used a YouTube video also really helped with install.

One struggle I had was the "stash box" or optional storage container under the seat. Getting the bead to roll under or around this was a pain! I fought this section for about 20-30 minutes before I drilled out the rivets to the bracket. That's my recommendation for anyone with the storage bin is to remove the bin and the bracket itself then just re-rivot.
