FJ in Newport Beach is too used to free sales that they won't work for a sale. Trust me, I've dealt with them. I live in OC and they are in the heart of most of the money in OC. When you walk in, they're as busy as a Toyota dealer, with every cubicle filled with customers taking the cars off their hands. There was an AMG I was going to buy from them, and they didn't come down to the price I wanted to pay (I still left about $5000 on the bone for them), well that was a year and half ago and they still have the car on the lot.

I bought mine at BH Mercedes and got it for less than what I was pressuring FJ on (higher percentage off), with a more sought after options, etc...

Remind you that my family has bought over 30 Mercs from those bas*ards at FJ of Newport. They just don't want to work with well educated customers who know ins and outs of the car business.

Totally agree with you. I was looking to do a deal on a C class for my mom and they would not be budge on their price. Funny while I was there I got a call from MB of Encino and they were able to put together a sweet deal for us that was going to save us $50 a month on same car. Ovr 36 months that is close to $2K in savings compared to what FJ was offering.

I think they know that the people that buy from them are not well educated and just come in to buy on impulse and giving them a few thousand off makes them happy. I remember when I was there try to negotiate with them they kept trying to push this whole thing about the "whole experience of owing a MB etc." BS. So when someone like us comes in and knows all the ins and outs of the process they get intimidated and try to push you away because they know another sucker is just waiting outside to take crappy deal they are offering.

I, too, am interested in deals in the DC/MD/VA area. I'm looking for an E350 wagon. I want to order, since none of the dealers in the area have wagons optioned the way I want on the lot. The best I've gotten so far is $4k-5k off list. After paying fees and TT&L, that brings the price back up to near MSRP.

One dealer told me that for an ordered optioned station wagon, I'm not going to get more than a few thousand off list... How are you guys getting $15k off???

I'm interested in a 5 yr finance, if that factors in at all.

I'm starting to doubt these lease #'s. I've contacted the same dealers in CA that others said they've gotten these super deals on, all of the dealers deny ever having done a deal like that and would not get anywhere close to it. They all claim that they'd lose $3k to $5k per vehicle if they leased at those rates.

So unless someone can post a lease contract showing those #'s, I think we should all take it with grain of salt.

I consider myself a pretty good negotiator, and having purchased nearly 40 new vehicles in the last 23 years, I'd say pretty experienced as well.
I can easily get $10k off a purchase, $12k is not too hard, $15k is much more of a stretch but still believable. But the lease # of $2k drive out with $417/month payment tax included on a $63k vehicle, that's more than a superb deal if it ever existed.
Same dealer that supposedly gave that lease deal would only do $3.5k drive out with $369 + tax /month on a $59k vehicle no matter how hard I pressed or negotiated.

I have gotten incredible deals in the past so I'd like to give the poster the benefit of the doubt, but if someone who has gotten those awesome lease deals can post a scan of their contract (with their personal info blanked out of course) then it would make it more believable and also help the rest of us to walk in to the dealership with some proof in hand.

Sorry guys but I just don't believe $15K off MSRP is possible, that's why I posted to see what others were getting. I'm not even sure if $12K is possible. We need some constructive input with people revealing dealers and sales people giving these discounts, how come no one is willing to cough up this information?

It would be totally cool to compile a list of all deals over $10K in this thread, or a new thread. Could it be that $12K-$15K is possible but the dealers are limited to the number of these amazing deals?

I think my original comment from page 1 sums it up really nicely... We had plenty of solid comments from someone on the inside in another similar thread (Sorry, Can't find it at the moment) and common sense also dictates these discounts are the exception rather than the norm.

My sales guy told me the most they ever discounted a car was by $9K and it was a weirdly optioned car that they just wanted to get rid of. Mind you I'm in "truck/SUV county" and my highest volume dealer sells just shy of 400 vehicles a year.

Most of the ads that have been posted had "One at this price, or 5 at this price" listed on the ad. MBUSA sometimes gives special "coupons" to dealer that they can apply to any of their vehicles to make a sale. Usually they use these coupons to move out last year's inventory. Sometimes they can have one of these coupons available to apply to new model year cars if they successfully sold their old inventory without help.
