Mercedes aren't worth it thread...

How many of us are tired of hearing from co-workers and other people say "Mercedes aren't worth it! I'd rather buy a NEW Infiniti or Lexus for $40k-$45k out the door than a used 2010 E350 for $35K or a 2011/2012 E350 for $37K-$40K or a new 2014 E350 for $50K."

These people keep saying that they'd rather save the extra $10K or so instead of throwing it down on a Mercedes. They keep going on and on justifying why "its not worth it to buy a Mercedes" also because of the maintenance and repair costs.

I'm thinking in my head, you are just too cheap to buy the Mercedes or you shouldn't be in the luxury car market if you want to cheap out and buy an Infiniti or Lexus. Really, what's the difference between a $40K Infiniti or $50K Mercedes E350? If you can only barely afford the $40K Infiniti you probably shouldn't be buying a luxury car right?

I'm just tired of listening to "cheapo's" justify why Infiniti or Lexus is a much better buy when the fact is, if you've ever driven a Mercedes E350 you would know they drive ALOT better than those japanese cars and the prestige that comes with it.

When I see a $50K Infiniti or Lexus I see a $35K or $40K car, but when I see a $50K Mercedes E350 I see someone who is very well off.

funny.... when i see someone in a $50k E350, i see someone who paid around 40k for it. what's wrong with Lexus? Spending $50,000 on a Lexus is exactly the same thing as spending $50,000 on a MB. I didn't know there was a different exchange rate when it comes to car buying

Its funny that I never see the valets around park a Lexus or infinity up front. The always take it to the parking lot. I've seen them move other cars to park a Mercedes in the drop area to show off.

To me, there is no price I wouldn't pay for safety and reliability. I transport very, very precious and important people in my MB. Those cars mentioned are all good cars, they don't have the safety track record of an MB.

We can use some kind of justification to purchase a MB over a Lexus, we all did after all. The Lexus owners did their own research and came to a different conclusion that landed them in a Lexus dealership.

As for using the safety argument The Mercedes E-class scord 4 stars overall on safecar.gov while the C-class scored 5 stars. Lexus ES scored 5 stars and the GS is not rated. I was in a Chrysler minivan on the highway in a rear end collision that ended up totaling 3 cars and my entire family of 4 walked from the minivan unharmed. I think Chrysler is the safest car on earth. Anecdotal evidence is not evidence. Perceived safety is not safety.

As hard as it is Lexus owners to understand why MB owners would spend money on a MB over a Lexus it's equally difficult for MB owners to understand the opposite. If we understood we'd be driving a Lexus.

those friends and co-worker end up picking up a Benz and BMW with my help after I show them that they can get more car for same money.

My favorite line to explain why I like getting Mercedes ... (I like the latest and the greatest)

Mercedes/BMW = Windows 8.1
Lexus / Infiniti = Windows 7
Toyota / Honda = Windows XP

I personally could care less what someone is driving on the road. As long as they don't run into me and get out of my way we are good

I have rec'd the comment from bosses coworkers that I drive flashy cars. Not that I'm too concerned with what people drive. I do find it interesting how others are so interested in others people business. Human nature I guess.

If I see a guy in something nice I'm just happy for the chap!

if you are buying a car for the brand name alone, you're doing it wrong.

I don't think MB or BMW would like being equated to a MS product. I find it a poor analogy.

I know a couple of guys that drives a Lexus GS350 and they brag about how it has more options than mine and how they are paying hundred dollars less a month than me. Then I tell them why don't they drive a Ford Fusion then because that car has more options than the Lexus.

This.

Although my argument is more along "it's more reliable and nicer for the money than the Lexus", but in the end it's the same thing.

If they open their mouth and "car person" words come out, then I'll listen. But it's never "car person" words, is it?

Nooooo... it's always "cheap ***-hat hypocrite being emotionally compelled by his overwhelming insecurity likely caused by a very small pee pee to make sure you know that he can't understand how you would choose to waste your money never mind that he isn't driving a Honda Civic therefore has no leg to stand on" words.

Not sure what the difference is between a Lexus and Mercedes as far as repairs go. I have a MB C55 and an Lexus LS class, both are expensive. If you can't afford to make repairs on a luxury car you probably shouldn't buy one to begin with. With that said, I haven't had any real issues with either vehicle and I'm sure if I do I will be complaining extensively about it.

Whoever says they would rather have a Lexus because they're cheaper isn't paying attention to the cost of a new Lexus. If you compare pricing between a new MB and a new Lexus in the same class they're very similar.

I enjoyed my Lexus GS300 very much and my wife enjoyed her ES350.They were nice rtiding dependable cars. We both are now enjoying our MB cars. This is such a childish my car brand is better than your car brand thread.
