18" Wheel and Tires opinions please
Hi all, I drive 35k miles a year and due to potholes I need 2 rims and am ready for 4 new tires on my 2010 E350 4 Matic.
Whats your opinion on these wheels pictured for a white E350. When It warms up I am going to get the Roof Black Vinyl wrapped for the panoramic sunroof look, So I think these would be a good look to tie the white and black together.
Also what do you think about the strength of aftermarket replica wheels, the OEM w211 and W212 have given me 4 bent rims in 2 years so I don't think there anything special.
Also what tires would you get based on 35k mile per year highway driving?
Costco has 4 Michelin sport AS/3 installed for about $900 installed (45k mile tire) with there $70 rebate right now, and option B is Continental 70k Pure contact LRR eco Plus tire for about $800 installed. Its a highway cruiser so I want decent handling but more a Quiet smooth highway ride.
Thanks

One of the best kept secrets in tires for luxury cars is the Falken Azenis pt722. I recently put a set on my S350. Amazing improvement over the stock Michelin Pilots. The Michelins were down to the wear bars at 29k miles. The Falkens are noticeably more quiet, better in the rain and cling like Velcro on dry roads. You will have to spend a bit less to get them, but, they are well worth a look.

It like the rims, will go nice with theme.
I'm installing continental dsw tires today and can give you feedback tonight. They are highly rated and recommended throughout the forum.

I have a set of OEM AMG wheels with the original continental tires + TPMS, that came off my 2014 E350, for sale.
They are only 2 weeks old and had less than 100 miles on them. interested?

best bet would be to stick with oem and pick up some wheel/tire insurance. sounds like the roads are letting you down, not necessarily the wheels. reps are weak sauce. i know wheels are expensive. but reps are just awful.

I put A/S 3s on my E350 last summer. So far, I love them. Quiet, great handling. Yes, it is a 45k tire, but if you have a staggered set-up, as I do, you will only get 22.5k out of them. The 45k only applies if you can rotate them. At this point I would say they're worth the money . . . I'm just hoping they last for 22.5k miles. Stick with OEMs.

my last two sets of Michelin on my 550 were pro rated due to short life

I have a 4 matic so not staggered, and Costco has free rotations and mileage warranty if I do get them from there.
Otherwise Discount tire with there replacement certificates is another option for other brands.

never had tire/wheel issues in 17 years even with 19" rims in FL, but here in NoVa and DC, been unlucky.
Drive 3 x as much now as well.

Normal, 65 mph - 70 mph.
I drive the road every day, and most places they had a slight "ramp" for the transition zone, but in that lane on that day at that time no luck.
Sucked.
But 1000's of cars were passing and no issues, so I don't know if it was the OEM rim or the tire or 1/2 of both, but both right side ones failed instantly.
The other time my DWS popped but the rim was fine was in a side street with grooved pavement to asphalt and speed was 40mph.
Not my lucky tire at all.
Now I am dodging winter potholes on a 3 mile side street in my area, (hunter mill rd in vienna) which is fine in the day, but at night not so lucky.

Hype: I was not very impressed with the Michelins. I could have gotten them pro-rated, but, just didn't like them. I have about 1k miles on that Falken Azenis PT722 in 255/45R18 on my S and so far am absolutely amazed at how good they are. The Michelins were no where near as quiet as the Falken, and the wet traction of the Falken is superior as well. It is not often today that a product actually lives up to expectations let alone exceed expectations. The Falken Azenis may be the best Luxury Touring tire I have ever had on a car. Time will tell about durability, but, I am optimistic.
