CPO warranty mileage removed

I just received an email to buy a CPO car from a dealer and in the advertisement it says that Mercedes removed the mileage restriction and made it unlimited mileage on CPO warranties.

I wonder if this is a temporary marketing strategy or if it will be permanent.

This really makes me want to buy a CPO S550 now.

Yup they announced it this past Monday. They are also offering unlimited miles on the 1 or 2 year extended warranty that you can add to CPO. So in theory you can get a CPO with a total of 7 years warranty (from original sale date) and unlimited miles.

This is a good deal for those that drive a lot of miles. I wish they had this when I used to drive 50k miles a year.

any details on extended warranties for new purchases? unlimited miles would be nice. going to be doing 20k miles per year starting soon.

thenew3 01-17-2014 12:33 PM

New vehicles can get 3 year extended (total of 7 from original sale date) and up to 135k miles. I haven't heard them removing the mileage requirement on new vehicles.

If you're doing 20k/yr on a new vehicle, you can get 7yr/135k mile which will cover just short of the roughly 140k you're expected to drive.

^ perfect, thanks. looks like it will work out under the current offers. i plan to operate for 8 years, more if the future models don't exactly blow me away with upgrades to tech and fuel economy.

What's the cost for 3 year extended?

You'll have to call a dealer and get a quote. It's different based on each vehicle equipment.

There are several threads talking about this and a few names and numbers of dealers that give good discount pricing on extended warranty.

I personally bought two extended warranties from Dan Boone of MB of Austin. They were about 40% less than what my local dealer quoted me.

+1 for Dan Boone. Is the 7/135k a new thing? I got 7/125k as that was the maximum I could get. I had my car for 6 weeks and it has 3,700 miles on it. I might be hitting the 125k sooner than expected.

Wow. I just purchased the 135k CPO before I hit 50k this spring. I wonder if this applies to my purchase? I will inquire over the weekend. Thanks for posting this 2006_c350.

drsaab 01-17-2014 04:39 PM

yeah thanks for posting, I drive 35k miles a year.

My 2010 has 80k miles today. I could trade.

I have a dealer license so get cars wholesale but cant get that warranty anywhere for sure.

We did the 7/135K when we picked up ours in Nov.
effectively it's 4/100 for my ownership period.
Well worth it.

there's probably other threads on this, but i'm not 100% sold on paying around $3600 for a 7yr/125k extended. the major stuff would really have to go bad to make the c/b ratio pencil out.

if a transmission runs well for 50k miles, what's the risk of it tanking during the next 75k? i just think the gremlins would show up early and often if the unit was defective.

my main concern though, would be the fuel injection system and the turbos. not sure i could go 125k miles without worrying about them.

on the other hand, having a $1200 threshold for repairs each year for the 3 years after my new vehicle warranty runs out is kinda rough. i'm already paying for preventive maintenance on top of that.

GregTR 01-17-2014 09:07 PM

I'm not worried about the transmission or the engine, I'm far more concerned with all the electronic gadgets and features my car is full of. And it's not even the parts, it's the labor that scares me. I like my dynamic multicontour seats too much to quit using them after they break out of warranty because I sure as hell won't pay $1200 in parts and labor to get that thing fixed. It runs off of an air compressor and it's prone to break.

$3,600 on a $50k car might seem like a lot but on a $75k car it's more of a bargain.

drsaab 01-17-2014 09:44 PM

on the note of the CPO, is there any way to search for options without clicking on each car?

Looking for CPO that have P2 and Distronic, If anyone happens to see some at a good deal pm me, 2014 would be great (there is one close to me in annapolis listed with distronic but I confirmed it does not have it).

2014 Diesel CPO with distronic would be #1 choice. 5 yr unlimited miles with about $2500 to extend to 7 yr unlimited miles. Too bad there is none that I can find.

youre looking for a cpo MY 2014? theyve only been out for like 6-7 months....

drsaab 01-18-2014 12:38 AM

yep, there is 19 or so listed, but none have distronic.

with a cpo it will have roughly 54 mos unlimited miles warranty

@ 3k m/mo = 162,000 miles for me

with the extra 2 years, there is the potential to have a CPO warranty for 78 mos
3k x 78 mos = 234,000 milles

they would never run the promotion again :)

hope I find one!

Ok after two days of research and a ton of phone calls the best price I got was $2090.00 for 3 extra years and 25,000 miles, given me a total of 7 year & 75,000 miles.
Best price from MB of Santa Rosa CA. $2090.00
Worst price my local dealer MB of Fairfield CT. $2,800.00

yeah, i'm gonna bail on the extended. i purposely ordered my car without all the bells and whistles to keep things clean and simple. no pano roof, no active lights, no radar cruise, massage seats, auto park, etc. didn't even want P1 until the dealer pushed back. only thing i might have added in retro is the blind-spot warning, but not sure that can even be added separate from some other pack of things.

i'm not feeling the $3600 for basically a powertrain that should hold up fine, if everything's smooth through the first 50k miles. even if there's an issue, i have a $3600 buffer to address.
