2014 E350 Dash light question

What is the light in between the "traction control" light and the "traction control light off"?

usamuscle 01-26-2014 04:09 PM

I think that is warning for your about to rear end someone? I could be wrong

boltonblue 01-26-2014 04:45 PM

I'll make a wild guess here but....
The little triangle blinks when the traction control is compensating for slip
traction control light off indicates you have chosen to override the system.

I'm wondering what the light in between the two circled in red is...

drsaab 01-26-2014 06:53 PM

Yes It is the pre safe light. It will tighten the brakes so if you just tap em you will get max brake power so u don't hit the guy In front of you.

instantfob 01-26-2014 07:01 PM

yup it will beep and this red light lights up when you are about to hit someone.

2006_C350 01-27-2014 10:35 PM

This light is pretty much useless, you are so close to hitting the car that you will probably hit the car a millisecond after it beeps...

I do not thinks so at all. I have seen it a lot but mainly when using distronic and mine is a 2010 so It is probably improved in a 2014. It tells me that 40% braking is not enough so I better intervene and apply the brakes manually. It tells me this well ahead of hitting anyone and it sets the brakes so even a light push gives 80% or so of the cars braking power. If someone cuts you off hard, it will come on. Anytime your going way faster than the car ahead and it thinks you can't stop, it will warn you in plenty time so you don't hit the car.

Now if the guy behind you is not quick in braking.. then you have a problem :)

I tailgated someone about 2 feet away and it didn't go off. I had to be like closer than 1 feet, and even then I'm not sure if it would go off.

This all on the freeway, very dangerous btw...

tailgating wont do it, the distance between the person in front of you and your own car has to be decreasing quickly for the warning to sound, if youre just gradually getting closer and closer it wont go off

Yes It is based on the speed difference in the 2 cars. IF you approach someone at 80mph and there doing 50 mph, it will go off. It deals with braking power of the car.

both driving 80 at 2 cm apart, will not go off.

Better not do that to someone like me, might pull my AK47 out and teach you a lesson:crazy:

Then this system is not as efficient as I thought would be , honestly no matter what it should set and keep the distance from the car in front of you or you're following .
In your case, for 80 km/h recommended distance is 40 meters but in today's ABS equipped cars it sounds a bit far off to me lol (clear road conditions,if you're driving in rain or snow then the distance should be far away )
I think leaving 1.5 secs following distance is enough given all road surface is clean ,no need to crowd the car you're following

Nor is tailgating.

Does the OP have distronic? I thought it only beeps when the car has distronic?

Jeffy 01-28-2014 07:11 PM

At least half of the time when the warning beeps and the light flashes its a false alarm - No car in front of me. Still needs more development.

Glad to know it's not just mine. It goes off on the rare occasion with no one near me at all. The service technician at the dealership said it was due to interference from my K40 Radar/Jammer. I can't disprove it. Not a real hassle though.

Long3494Qut 01-28-2014 07:49 PM

Works 50% of the time, happens to work when I floor it and the car couple feet ahead isn't moving. Other times it beeps when I past by cars at a quick speed. Like Jeffy said, definitely needs more improvement

I don't have distronic but it still makes that noise.

2014 BAS PLUS/Collision Prevention Assist uses a pair of cameras mounted on behind your rear view mirror (next to your rain sensor)

Is that an option or is it standard on 2014's?

scottmcdaniel1 01-30-2014 04:40 PM

collision prevention assist (CPA) is standard on all MB models. detects the rate at which distance is closing between you and lead vehicle. if system predicts that collision would be probable without intervention, it will beep and light will illuminate. it's a way to catch attention of a possible distracted driver to take action and avoid accident. i have driver's assistance package on my 2014 e350 and it will happen even when DISTRONIC not engaged (ex. someone pulls out in front of me suddenly and stops...even if i'm paying attention). wife has it on her Edition 1 CLA and had no clue what it was until i explained it to her. CPA is present on all vehicles just like Attention Assist: standard safety feature

scottmcdaniel1 01-30-2014 04:42 PM

BAS Plus is the newest system that does use cameras...included with newer driver's assistance package. allows for autonomous braking. CPA uses radar sensors in the front bumpers
