Interior Ambient Lighting

Does the 2013 E Class have interior ambient lighting (ex: on the front dash, side of doors, etc) that the 2014s have? If so, is it standard or part of a package? If a package, would my vehicle with P2 have it? Lastly, are the colors changeable like the 2014s?

Thanks!

Per the 2013 owners manual. You can adjust the brightness but not the color like the 2014s.

Yes the 2013 does have interior lighting. I think its a standard option, doesn't seem to come with any package. However the light only stays one color, kind of like a light orange color. You cannot change colors unfortunately.

The 2014's can change color? Dang color envy. Wish I didn't know this..

yes - the ambient in pre-facelift models is called "solar" and it is the orange glow.

2014's have the choices of "solar" orange, "polar" blue, or "neutral" white.

i leave mine on "neutral" almost all of the time, except for really dark stretches where the "solar" feels better on the eyes.

example of my "neutral" white look:

I went with the "solar" orangey color. Very restful ;-)

I like "solar" orange better too, but because MB gives us the other options on the 2014 I really want to use something other than what the other MY's have. Can't decide blue or white...sigh...

shashivr4 01-29-2014 05:34 PM

I don't feel as left out now as it seems most people (n=2) prefers the "solar" ;-)

awesome, didn't know the new cars had different colors.....
the new S has 7 I think......
I have 3 in my cls and really like the polar blue; looks great against the CF trim....
the orange in my E is okay, but quite dull when compared to the newer cars :)
would also be cool to have the door sills change colors along with the cabin.....

I think I recall red or green being best for the eyes at night time?

^ you know you're gonna be full-timing it in hot pink ambience inside that W222. "miami sunrise" or whatever they're calling it. i have head over to the W222 section to see your pics when it comes in.... should be plush, dude.

2014's can change color?? I just got a bit jealous, I thought it was only in the S class. The ambient lighting is one of my favorite features in my 2013. Passengers always say it make the car feel more classy. The neutral color would be nice to have as it matches the lighting in the dash display.

Arrie 01-29-2014 10:04 PM

Darn, I have only the "old fashioned" 2010 model year yellowish lighting. But, I think it looks absolutely awesome with my interior colors and I don't think any other light color would be as good. Thank God I don't need to get a new car to get the interior color selection.

boltonblue 01-29-2014 10:18 PM

my first thought was , that's all I need, now I have to pick my interior color on a daily basis.
but maybe they can map sensors into the steering wheel and the interior can reflect your emotional state like some whiz-bang mood ring.

"no officer I'm not mad at you, I always have pulsing red as my interior color"

Long3494Qut 01-29-2014 11:12 PM

Blue all the way for me. Looked great in the black trim on the Steel grey and now still looks good in chestnut leather!

On my '14 model I have the option to change the color with respect to my interior ambient lighting. It is a very cool feature.

I don't mess around with changing colors too much but my passengers love it at night.

Does anyone know if the cabin lights come from several local light bulbs or it just comes from a single light source that pointing to several fiber optic segments to distribute light to places? This could be an easy mode to change colors for pre 2014 models.

phreeeeek 02-09-2014 12:01 PM

this is for sure one of my favorite details about the car, my passengers love it too

it is fiber optic lighting. this would be a fine mod with the potential to add even more colors :y

keep us posted if you go down this path.

Thanks E Classy for a good news. I will do it this Spring and post procedures when the weather getting warmer.

Does anyone know where is the light chamber that holds the light sources located?

My guess you are pretty much stuck with orange as the difference color LED hardware is not there.
