2014 E350 Wagon
Call me when they have a wagon version...

In seriousness, I don't think they're going for that market at all. It's more like a Panamera, A7, CLS competitor. Based on a video review from Hungary it's pretty spartan and "cheap". Then again, you're paying mostly for the badge and when you only have under $70K to spend there is not much left for refinement and technology.

http://totalcar.hu/tv/2013/10/09/mas...ghibli_-_2013/

BTW it looks like a KIA from behind...

Oh, and it also comes in diesel. Can't wit for that 3 cylinder Lamborghini...

This car is squarely on my radar as my next project build. It's much nicer in person and the SQ4 sounds amazing with that Ferrari derive engine. That said, you're probably looking closer to $85K range for a well equipped model. Prices also just went up recently due to demand. Much like when the C class was introduced, the Ghibli will probably end up saving the manufacturer. As for the spartan interior.... there is something to be said about simple clean and not overteched out with buttons I'd probably never use.

Its nice. I thought about it briefly. They dont offer a V8 and they dont have anywhere near the driver tech toys that the E-Class has. I see it as more of a W211 E350 competitor than a W212.

BMW 5er
a $70k quasi-exotic sports car that goes 0-60 in 5.5

sq4 is cool, though.

i was all excited before i've seen it. i drive by the dealership every day but didn't go and check it out. the car "looks" small, though . don't get me wrong. the car is nice and i'm sure the interior is nicer. but i'm expecting more from a company like maserati. like most said, by adding the long list of options, the price could reach $100K ! i'd rather have a cls or 6 gran coupe instead of that.

Definitely a CLS or Gran Coupe competitor rather than fighting E/5/A6/GS. I wouldn't be surprised to see average MSRP 80K or so.

Still, it's a niche that seems to work, I am sure they will sell.

I like it. I would not buy it. I did not like their commercial. I found it to be too long and not to the point. I think for the price it is a good car but I feel there are better options.

So you purchased your E350 because of the MB Logo then? Or do you just feel this care is mostly the badge?

Nope, the badge was the last thing I worried about. I bought it for the fact that it is the last legitimate mid-size station wagon on the market that has all the latest and greatest technology packed into it. I just didn't want to drive an MDX as it felt like crap. Cheap crap.

People who buy a Maserati most definitely buy it for the badge just as most MB brand snobs do too. I'm not one of them.

I saw it at the auto show in Miami late last year. It is beautiful inside and out. There were two versions with the more expensive having more power and all wheel drive for mid $70's absolutely gorgeous and incredible paint colors. I personally don't have the money, time or energy to deal with the potential reliability issues given small dealership network. They are bigger than the look, I think in the 195 inch range, bigger than e or 5 series. But they are stunning. Regards. Ned.

Respectable answer on your E... However to say people who buy a Maserati for the badge is a silly general comment... We had a 04 Spyder and it had nothing to do with the emblem. Did not buy it for the badge and I am sure some people would think you bought the MB for the logo as well. Stupid logic.

I just think "Ghibli" is an awfully funny name for a car, especially a maserati.

Here's a real Ghibli:

No doubt as many Maseratis sell for the badge/image as MBs. It's known as something exotic even to people who don't care about cars.

An E-wagon is more exotic than a Maserati.

"Mercedes-Benz sold just 1726 E-Class wagons last year, meaning you were more likely to spot a new two-door Maserati than you were a two-box E-Class."

To each their own but I'd buy an E63 wagon long before I'd buy a Maserati or an R8...

The ghlibli looks REALLY REALLY good, but thats the thing with Italian cars, they look amazing, but are terrible with overall reliability.

Going by a dictionary definition, of course - but the simple Maserati badge will turn the head of the typical non-enthusiast more than an E-wagon. That's what it's all about, for many. An image you or I might not embrace isn't always negative to the peanut gallery.

I'd take the E63 wagon, too. Maseratis and R8s are a dime a dozen in my area, but previous E AMG wagons only made it to around 100 sales/yr in the US, and are much cooler than more ostentatious things.

I saw one at a steakhouse one night: not impressed

I have never heard good things about Maseratti......if the 'expensive' ones are unreliable and always in the shop........what will that say about this one and it's price point?

time will tell I guess.........
not for me though

Not a bad looking car, If anything it has an "exotic" element to it. The 6 cyl starts at 67k any1 bother to spec one out? Your close to 80k easy. For that price I'll stick to my CLS, there 8cyl with decent options will bring you to 90k. No thanx

I think you misunderstood my post. A regular E350 wagon is more rare than a Maserati, they brought in less than 2,000 of those. The E63s AMG wagon is still selling in the double digits per year and for every one there are two SLS on the road.

But you are right, the E-wagon does not have that "exotic" look or badge but as I already stated that is not the reason I drive one, I really don't care what other people think about what I drive. Truth be told most probably think "look at that idiot, he could have bought two Honda Odysseys for the price".

The Italian cars have a certain air about them that the German cars cannot match. They are different, unique and incomparable to any other. Sexy, stylish, fast, unreliable. And the sound they have is like no other although I can't say I have heard the Ghibli model full out up-shifting or downshifting. They do say Maserati's in general have an exhaust note that gives women orgasims - even if they won't admit it. I'm too old to pick up women anyway. Overall, an Italian car for this money is a pretty good buy if the circumstances are right.

Having said all this there are reasons and circumstances why I would not buy one: first, the record of poor reliability for any Italian sport car requires a dealer close by. The closest to me is nearly 150 miles away and that is the only one for the next several hundred miles. I also think Maserati will probably be bought out by someone within five years no matter how successful the Ghibli becomes. Second, I live in the back country where everyone owns a Ford F150 or Silverado 4X4 so no one would notice a car such as this or even if they did, would not have a clue what it was - nor would they care. In fact, in this part of the country a car like this would be looked down upon by Bubba and Rufus. The exclusivity that people seek or the pride of brand they want would be lost completely. Third, and perhaps most important, the S class coupe is coming. Even Bubba will stand up and take notice of that!

In the Hungarian video review I posted these are precisely the traits the reviewer praises. He also mentions that the Ghibli is not another version of a 4-door sedan but it is what it is from the ground up which makes it all the better, whatever that means. He also comments on the exhaust sound that only Maserati could make such music come out of a V6.

I also think Maserati will probably be bought out by someone within five years no matter how successful the Ghibli becomes.
Maserati is owned by Fiat who also owns Chrysler, I doubt Maserati goes anywhere.

I think the car is fantastic for the base money. So unique. expensive options and not the newest tech rule it out though. But most lay ppl will not know what it is, and when they see Maserati the over $100k figure pops in the head instantly.

I also heard Maserati is building 36 new dealers in the us after the great year in the stock market last year and new increased sales of luxury cars.

Wish it had distronic and was reliable.

I saw one in person a month ago. White exterior with dark wheels and red calipers. Looks amazing.
Price will be more like $80K out the door. I think it is competing with CLS and 6 series.
