Staggered vs Non-Staggered Wheels for MY 2014

Is there any advantage having staggered over non-staggered wheels in terms of handling performance? My 2014 e 350 sport came with the standard non-staggered 18" wheels which recently had experienced some severe curb rash. The damage can easily be fixed. However my local MB dealer has offered to sell me four (4) replacement 18" AMG wheels and tires for a bargain price. Ony thing is, its staggered. I'm seriously considering their offer if I can justify its merits performance-wise.
Any advice or input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Staggered is really a high performance must for a rwd car. You have to use a wider rear footprint to put the power to the ground but you dont want the width on the front that can cause tracking and overwork your powersteering. An E350 will not see any benefits. A rwd E550 or E63, it's really a must unless they are AWD. Also for me, staggered looks 10x better than non-staggered. I like a real wide tire in the back and even put staggered on my e320 eventhough it didn't need them.

Yes there is a handling advantage. How did your "Sport" come with non staggered wheels?

Non-staggered wheels are standard on all MY 2014 e350 "Sport Edition".
My local MB dealership is selling me AMG staggered wheels to replace my existing non-staggered wheels which got some curbside rash. I just want to know the benefits if any by switching from non-staggered to a staggered wheel set up.

For the speeds we can legally drive here in the U.S., which is only about 2/3 of the speed you see these cars driven regularly on the roads they were engineered for, it does not matter for the performance if it is a staggered setup or not. It is only for looks. My car has it and it really enhances the looks compared to non staggered.

Same question as earlier from mleskovar, how did you manage to get a sports model without the staggered setup?

Is your car a 4-Matic perhaps, which would explain it but which also should mean that your dealer should not even offer staggered setup?

If your car is a sports model without the 4-Matic and it indeed came without the staggered setup it means that someone changed the wheels on the car before it was sold to you and this someone can only be the dealer. And believe me, this really happens.

+1. I've been looking at the '14s sports and they all have staggered wheels with the exception of the diesels....

Interesting. Are you referring to all '14s non-4matic gas engine sports (non-diesels) or only those that have an optional AMG wheels? Because my early production '14 gas engine sport (non-4matic, late spring of last year build) had non-staggered sport 18" wheels. All '14 sports I've seen with standard 18" sport wheels (not 18" AMG option) were all non-staggered.

+1.. on a AWD car its just looks.. for a high HP RWD car it helps the rears to grip the road.

According to MBUSA.com all non-4matic Sport models should have staggered wheels.

Staggered wheels for the E350/550 is mainly for looks.
The performance gain is minimal. If you are going to go staggered then get custom wheels 10in or more in the back. There is only 0.5in difference with MB wheels so its not worth it IMO. You probably wont even notice that they are staggered unless you read the sidewall.

According to the website - yes. But not according to what was installed on my car, nor others I've see. Anyone with "standard" sport wheels (not AMG) has staggered on non-4matic gas E350?

I'm referring to this sport standard wheels:

I prefer square setup for less under-steering in canyons.

Applies to 2014+ RWD cars.
non-AMG Sport gets square setup.
AMG wheels option gets staggered.

My new purchase 2011 E350 had the staggered setup but they were not AMG wheels that the paperwork for the car claimed. This is how I know the wheels had been changed before I bought the car. Not big enough problem for me to go fight for.

I think there are two setups for the RWD cars in sports trim. One is with AMG wheels and one is without. But both are staggered.

Read more carefully and pay attention to what you read. We are talking about 2014 MY and ONLY about 2014 MY. MB changed the setup for 2014 facelift. What does it have to do with any other prior year? All pre-facelift 2010-2013 RWD sport package E350 gas engine cars were equipped with staggered wheel, AMG or not. These are basics, which with so many posts, you should have known.

I'm cool, but if we had to bet "I could almost guarantee" you would loose, as they do not. For 2014MY - non-AMG non-staggered, while AMG staggered (only for RWD).

So, MB has staggered wheels only with the AMG stamp now... Interesting.

Here's a cut and paste from MBUSA website on wheel specifications for MY'14:
Sport: 245/40R18 front and 265/35R18 rear, all-season
Sport w/4MATIC: 245/40R18 front and rear, all-season
Luxury: 245/45R17 front and rear, all-season

Either the OP has a 4MATIC.....and staggered wheels shouldn't be offered to him... or the dealer delivered his car with a non standard tire configuration to begin with.

Maybe instead of doing all research on the internet and claim credibility, some should visit their local dealerships. You will see how silly some statements are. Interesting that those are coming from people who do not have MY '14 cars. Or maybe all those who have MY '14 cars (me included) are daydreamers?

SMH ... I have a 14' RWD parked in my garage without AMG wheel option.

It's 245/40/R18 all around ... Stop confusing people with pre-nose job edition "facts"

<insert RTFM moment>
