Does anyone know how to disable the eco button so that it only gets used when I want to use it? I hate having to turn it off ever time i get into the car. I do not want a car that hesitates because it was on eco.? I know that BMW allows you to turn there eco button off. I would appreciate any help Thanks.

Does yours really hesitate? I experience two modes:

Foot on brake with E/S/S engaged: lift foot from brake and by the time my foot is on the accelerator the engine is running and ready to go. No hesitation.

Brake hold engaged with E/S/S engaged: put foot on accelerator and the engine starts and smoothly accelerates. Clearly the computer is involved in making this as smooth as silk.

I don't notice any hesitation in either case. Maybe the diesel work better than the gas version?

The one instance it bothers me is when I "creep" to move ahead a little. Then the car starts up for an instant and shuts back off. I'm learning to just stay put.

I have only put about 300 miles on the car since December but it definately hesitates especially if you creep up as you mentioned. If you accelerate fast from a stop light it also will hesitates. Maybe when I get more miles on it it will stop the hesitation. Hopefully by September I will have about 600 miles on it.

Put me in the camp with those that hate the auto off feature. When the car restarts, you feel a shake..it's not seamless as they would have you believe...and I run 93 octane gas. Wish there was some way to disable it permanently instead of doing it every time I start the car. I'm willing to pay the extra $10 a year in gas...

I would be willing to pay someone $500 to disable it permanetly. I have checked every where I can think of and no one knows how to do it. Guess we are stuck until someone finds out how to disable it.

The button to disable / enable the feature is a push button, i.e. you press it to give the car's system a signal to toggle the feature ON/OFF, right?


If this is correct it should be easy to install a solenoid that initiates from the start solenoid voltage. This would mean that each time the car is started the solenoid would connect and give the signal to the system to change the status for the AUTO STOP function. This solenoid would be connected parallel with the existing push button so the solenoid would work just like the push button does but would do it automatically at each car start. The existing button in the car would still work just as it now does.


Some car electrical shop would gladly do this for $500 but remember, it could somehow void warranty...?

The button shuts the eco off. But if you press it again it turns it on. Thank you. I will try and find a shop that can do this and if it works I will post it.

i was actually thinking about this the other day...

i would like it to not be on eco when i start it up every time. Rather have one to turn it on when i want. Same goes for the E and S feature.

Just one little simple test you could do first to make sure this will work.

If you have the P2 car first with your foot off the brake push the start button once. This should set power ON without starting the car. Now press that ECO button to disable the AUTO ENGINE OFF function. Now then put your foot on the brake, start the engine and see if the ECO function stays OFF.

This test is to make sure the car does not turn power OFF from the ECO circuit for the time engine is cranked. This would reset the ECO back to ON and a relay with a hold function would be needed to keep it engaged until all power is back on.

I really don't think this will be an issue at all but it would be the only thing to make this simple fix a touch more complicated.

Tried what you suggested. If you press the start button without your foot on the brake the eco light does not go on. So when you press on it then put your foot on the brake and push the start button the eco comes on. If you press the start button twice without your foot on the brake the eco light comes on. You then press the button and the light goes out Then you put your foot on the brake and press the button to start car and the eco light does not come on. Will it work? Thanks

I also would LOVE to figure out how to permanently disable this useless feature...
As of now I make sure to push the button every time the car is started.

Sorry to "mislead you" should have said to push the start twice. This is the same as turning the key to position 2, the position just before you turn the key to start it.

I think it will work just fine as the crank of the engine does not change the ECO back ON.

Have owned the car for about a month and had this happen this morning. Stop at my parking garage gate to scan my car, the eco mode shutdown the engine, then I pressed on the gas and it went NOWHERE. I had to put it in park and start the car... NOT GOOD.
Also with the heat heat in dallas, eco mod means the AC isn't as cold.

So yes, I too would like to know away to disable this feature...

I have eco system in my e250 and I have no problems. When I am in a long wait, it is rather good that it turns off engine to save fuel.

Inability to permenently disable the start/stop feature was one of the reasons why I went with BMW rather than bought another Bluetec.Not the main reason surely...but a factor nevertheless.My "d" does allow you to default to "off".

But OTOH,there's the wear and tear on the starter,battery and the engine itself.Are you saving $$$ in the long run?

There is a dealership in Florida That will Disable the eco button . When I go on vacation I will see if they will do mine.

The eco start stop is disabled permanently for the time being in my W221 because of a auxiliary battery malfunction. They tried fixing it but the problem arose again but hey, I'm not complaining cause it doesn't affect anything else but eco start stop However, maybe there's a fuse that you could remove that could turn it off? Don't quote me on that cause I'm not sure.

On one of the prior posts on Eco Button complaints one of the respondents stated that they brought the car into their dealership in Florida and they put a switch in to make the eco go on only when they wanted it on. When I asked which dealership I received no response. I just figured when I am in Florida I will try several dealerships until I find the right one. If you find the right one please let me know.

I found a way to permanently disable the Eco button. It's part of the video in motion cable that someone from Belarus sells on eBay. He can add a feature to the module to remember the last saved Eco setting. If you search through my previous posts you can find a longer description and link to this module-- I recently posted it in a reply on the 222 forum.

This eco thing is not smooth at all. I can feel the car shake when the engine starts. Makes me feel like im driving a 20 year old car. We need a software update to disable this thing permanently. Do Luxury car buyers really care to save a few bucks on gas. In the long run, from restarting the engine so many times other parts will fail.

I went through this with my 2013 bmw 535 ... At first bmw made the default with the Eco mode always on, it was super annoying having to push the off button every time you drove the car.

Finally enough people complained and bmw allowed a reprogramming to allow the car to remember its last mode so in other words if you left the feature off the next time you restarted the car it remembered you left it off and vica versa.

If enough people express their dislike for this feature maybe Mercedes USA will do the same.
