Old thread but I have my trickle charger connected to the front fuse box. It's actually a lot easier that way instead of hooking it up to the trunk. Plus with the trunk open no dust gets in. I retrofitted a power trunk to our w211 so having the rear trunk cracked wouldn't be possible either. Picture shows 12v line. Hook battery tender cable to that then just a ground point. I've had ours hooked up like that for 3 years. Zero problems and always charges the battery. I can then lower the hood all the way without "clicking it" closed and the cable runs across the engine bay, down by the headlight then to the wall. Completely out of the way of any tripping hazards.

Wow, just reading this thread. You guys really had too much fun with it. I'm happy OP cleared up the need. I was an avid golfer, too, and understand the situation with wet/damp trunk.

All said, wouldn't it be (relatively) easy to install a simple toggle switch in the trunk lid (next to the other buttons) to manually disable the light? Or would that throw error codes?
