Illuminated Star Installation help!

Just a FYI for those interested. Instead of using Fuse 23, you can also use fuse 9, which is for the front cigarette socket. This will switch the star on with ACC or anytime the car is on, and switch it off when you leave the car. It does not share the fuse with any other circuits as far as I can tell. Fuse 23 is shared with other engine components, which is why some people are having it randomly turning on/off.
Ground wire located below the bracket noted.
I used an add-a-circuit fuse tap located on fuse 9. I also had to drill a small hole in the white part of the housing for the wire to pass through, soldered the connection. This should still be water-tight.

non oem inexpensive mercedes illuminated star with very good reviews
There is a non oem mercedes illuminated star on Amazon with very good reviews.
It is "JetStyle" brand. and sells for about $110.
There are over 153 customer reviews, mostly positive. I am considering purchasing this as it is a much cheaper than the oem mercedes illuminated star.
Of course the quality is not as good as oem. One reviewer noted that the chrome is not as nice.
And the reviewer also noted that care must be taken when installing the star into the grille so that it is "clocked" correctly so that the star will be straight and not crooked.
There are three tabs, instead of two on the oem star, and it is not readily apparent as to which side is up, thus allowing 2 positions of installing the star, one crooked, and the other straight and correct.
Reviewers commented that the JetStyle illuminated star is actually brighter than oem, if that is a plus or a concern.
Amazon reviewers have posted quite a few pics of their Mercedes' with this star, and they look very good.
And concerning installation, similar issues were brought up as were talked about in this thread.
If fuses #23 or #24 are used for power supply, the star will come on and off intermittently.
If fuse #9 is used, the star will only illuminate with the ignition on and or car running.
Some had the Star installed for them by a shop. I would personally ask the shop how they intend to wire the star.
This Jetstyle mercedes illuminated star is just an option to the oem mercedes illuminated star, but it looks like a good one that is much cheaper, so I thought I would post it

Jetstyle non oem mercedes illuminated star is crooked after installation
I bought and installed the non oem jetstyle mercedes illuminated star.
IT WAS CROOKED WHEN INSERTED INTO THE GRILLE (ROTATED AND FULLY SEATED).
The star is about a quarter inch off from vertical when installed.
Overall the star is very bright, brighter than the oem star.
I compared it to my neighbors oem star on his car, and the jetstyle star is brighter, with a whiter light that matches the led headlights on my CLS550.
Judge for yourselves from the pictures as to whether the crooked angle bothers you.
(there are stop tabs on the star which stop against the plastic flanges in the round grille opening.
these stop taps don't have enough depth to be filled to rotate the star sufficiently to make it perfectly upright,
and I do not want to file the plastic flanges in the oem Mercedes grille to allow for more rotation, as that would cause the original star to be crooked if installed at a later time).
The star appears to be of good quality, and time will tell how durable it is.
It does not snap into place with anywhere near the force/effort that the oem star does, so I am concerned about taking it thru a car wash.
Amazon will of course take it back, but I do like the look and will keep it for now.

@mercshepherd You installed it wrong. I had the same issue with my logo but I managed to fix it by removing the logo, twisting it to the correct side, and putting it back in.

I bought this for my '16 E400 convertible with P3 package and it looks like it won't work. This requires some depth, and there is an electronics box in the way. I think it's for the Distronic system.

If you go to the trunk and look at the fuse layout sheet, there is a 20 amp fuse(number 23) that you can tap into. The fuse is located in the front driver side when you open the hood. When connected this way, when you unlock/lock the door, it will light up. When the engine is on, it will be on full time. There is no need to hook up the harness, just connect the star directly to this fuse and ground out the other wire.

I purchased the JetStyle LED Emblem the other day and it came in this morning. This evening I got around to installing. All in all it was pretty simple and I ended up tapping into Fuse #9. Debating if I should install an inline on/off switch and run to the dash as other mentioned. Happy with the look and feels it helps update the front end a little.

I used 23. Lights up when you lock and unlock the doors and stays on when the engine is running. After shut-off, it stays on for a few seconds longer than all the other lights. Going on 1 year without issue.

Ph350's post is a little bit off, it comes with the star and two different wires,it DOES NOT come with a ballast. The second generation lights up all the time when the engine is on ( Which is the one I have just installed on my car) , it DOES NOT light up when you just unlock the door. ONLY when the engine is on. The brightness of the star is pretty good at night buy far dimmer than the DLR lights, basically, you can't see it at all under daylight.

Above is the ebay store I bought mine, the seller is a NJ Mercedes dealer, but the parts I received were directly sent from MBUSA , not from the dealer, so I guess the dealer sent the order directly to MBUSA.
I have instructions for both the 1st gen star which only lights up when you unlock the door and shuts down when you start the engine. ( But the brightness is same as the DLR LED)
AND the second gen when it lights up all the time when engine is on ( BUT the brightness is far less than the DLR LED, you can only see it at night)
If anyone need these, just send me the email and I'll be happy to send you the instructions.
