drivetrain whine at 65mph

hello all,
im new here after just purchasing my first MB,a 2010 e350 with 38000 miles on the odometer and i love it.I did just notice that on the highway at 65mph (roughly 2000 rpm) i hear a distinct whining sound. At first i suspected the tires but if i let up or get on the throttle just a hair it goes away, only happens at exactly those parameters. Before i take it in to have it looked at i was hoping to get some info from the experienced people here,
thanks!

Does the car has any warranty left? Normally, if you had a rear diff/drive shaft or tranny problems, the noise would increase as you go faster. If you are still on MB warranty, just take it to them, if not, try to rotate and balance the tires.

I recall reading another thread where a member was dealing with a vibration/noise issue at a certain speed. It turned about to be a tire balance issue. Do you feel anything in your seat or steering wheel, or do you just hear it?

If its at a certain speeds, its probably tires. Normally, drive-train noise (bearings, drive-shaft out of balance, rear diff) the noise would increase with the speed.

Just rotate and balance the tires, this wold be the cheapest first step.

+1 on this sounding like a tire issue.

When tires are more than half worn feathering occurs which causes road noise. It will get louder as wear increases and you will hear it at lower speeds. Michelin tires are the worst for this noise.

2014 E550-sold 😩
Lots of roads around here are grooved to reduce hydroplaning and holy crap are they loud when you get on one. The drive train in these are pretty bulletproof and I can't believe you would be having issues with that with so few miles on the clock.
