Should I buy a new E class?

A few weeks ago, while I was hustling down a winding road on my way to work, I decided my 5,000 pound Rolls Royce Ghost daily driver was not sporty enough. Though fun at times, the British bruiser often feels confused when driven hard and for some strange, unbeknownst reason makes me feel guilty when I corner too aggressively in it. It was then I decided that I needed another car to share everyday driving duties with the Ghost.

This vehicle needs to be perfect. I can fit a maximum of six vehicles in my garage, so this one has to be the car that fills all the holes in my current lineup.

This is what I'm looking for:

-no more than 350k
-can be used to carry a reasonable amount of luggage
-sporty
-everyday driving capabilities
-exciting and eye catching design

The three cars that immediately came to mind for me were the E63 AMG / CLS63 AMG, Audi RS7, and the Aston Martin Rapide. Can anyone think of any better picks?

Thanks

My vote would be the E63S AMG Wagon, you can definitely carry a lot of luggage and it will be very unique.

It's a blast to see you here as you posted a decent comparison in W222 Forums as well :y
E63 AMG is the ultimate E Class for what's worth I would still opt E500 because I like column shifter better :naughty: :nix:
E63 also lacks of traditional MB grill :smash: (this is all down to personal preference )

I would definitely recommend to go with E63. It is a perfect car in terms of ride and styling.

Can you share pictures of all your rides? Would love to see them. :)

With that kind of a budget I would look at the S65 AMG. It is a big car but the V12 in it makes it move. How sporty it is I don't know but it definitely catches my eye every time I see one, like yesterday in Houston. And the trunk can probably take a family in it...

If you need something smaller I would go with CLS63 AMG. It is one extremely good looking car but I'm not sure if the trunk capacity is big enough for you. If not then I would look at the E63 AMG that was mentioned in an earlier post already. You could buy two of these with your budget. One black and one white...

Given you garage make-up I vote for either the E63 or CLS - I think the E63S is a great sleeper. If you debadge it not many people will recognize it as being such a fast car. Given your budget, I would have Renntech turbo kit put on it.

Also what about a Panamera Turbo (although the design is eye catching in the wrong kind of way).

I don't see any Porsches in your current or past line up and maybe you are not a fan, but the new 911 turbo S is an incredible car with 0-60 in 2.7s and with 4WD it sticks to the road like bubble gum. Enough room to carry plenty of stuff as well. I have owned and always liked this sister German brand. These can be daily driven and they actually prefer to be daily driven as opposed to parked. Good luck in the hunt, which is always the most fun!

I assume you are looking at sedans, and yeah with a budget of 350K, I'd say if you are looking at the MB lineup, the S class AMG seems like the choice. If it is a bit on the big side, the E is a good choice as well. I, for one, am not hot on the lower front fascia though.

Yes! I will get to that ASAP. My son and I recently took a bunch of pictures of the fleet and will upload them whenever I get the chance.

P.S.- under what forum would I post such pictures under?

Thanks,

I like the S class as an alternative to the Ghost, but owning both at the same would bother me a lot (I like every car in my fleet to have a distinct role), so the S Class is most likely not for me at this point.

Never considered Renntech- interesting. As for the Panamera, I loathe its styling with a passion so I will not be buying one anytime soon.

Thank you so much for saying that. I'm definitely enjoying myself here so far!

2015 x6 M when it comes out..

PeterUbers 07-12-2014 05:13 PM

I hate how the panamera looks...

I think the op should consider an s63 amg

Arrie 07-12-2014 07:47 PM

Just remembered one that would be pretty good addition to the collection. The CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake. Unfortunately this is not available here in the U.S. but perhaps you could order one from Germany...?

A Renntech modified E63 would probably be the ultimate sleeper - a car with more than 700 hp that blends into the automotive landscape.

I live in Jupiter.

RS7, CLS63 AMG, M6 Grand Coupe.

I would eliminate E63 for many reasons, main one being tech and boring styling ( IMO ).

I would test drive every car on your list, the opinions of forum members are useless, fun topic but you have a 350k budget and your asking for input from E350/E550 owners?

KEY08 07-13-2014 09:06 AM

^ WTF? Yeah, all internet forums are useless then. Just a bunch of opinionated fools, which would include you.

While I am capable of making decisions for myself, I find that the people on car based forums have very relevant, fact and experience based opinions and perspectives about cars, so their advice is very useful.

I couldn't agree more: this info is from actual users; not just idea's of how the E class performs........such a strange fly by comment to make; but then again, the guy does have a G37? LOL

hyperion667 07-13-2014 12:15 PM

this car just exudes sexy! I couldn't imagine many guys having this ride; pretty exclusive IMO
