2014 E-250 Bluetec: What are OEM runflat tires?
I am getting ready to replace the Turanza's that came on my 2011 car, and am wondering what M-B chooses as OEM tires today.
Surely technology has changed in three years, or are my Turanzas still the best option for a run flat?
Thanks in advance for a response from the new diesel owners.
PS 63,000 miles on my car and I'm still in love. No, not original tires, they were replaced when I bought the car CPO at 20K, and I swap out for snows part of the year. So I really can't tell you how many miles are on the tires, I am guessing about 25K

I would recommend ditching the runflats. Compared to normal tires they drive much worse, and cost twice as much. Plus if you drive on a flat tire you're going to ruin your wheel as well. My vehicle came with runflats which I promptly ditched for Michelin Pilot Super Sports. As long as you have AAA there shouldn't be much of a worry.

I will replace mine with conventional tires when this set wears out. Too expensive to just throw away new tires.
I thought this was the purpose of run flats; that they would allow you to limp to a garage without damaging the wheel.

If you don't mind carrying the mobility kit (Slime/Plug + Air Pump)
Probably better off switching to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 for 160 bucks a pop.

What a joke the runflat tire is. The thing obviously came about for the reason that diesel engine cars have to have that tank for the blue and the only place in the car where to put it is right where the spare tire is in a gasoline engine car. So, the runflat tire was developed. This tire lets you to drive slow to have it replaced with a new one. It cannot be repaired. The only benefit from these tires is not to change wheel or call for a tow truck or road assistance for the change.
I would trash the runflats and have a can of "slime" in my trunk instead. If the tire breaks beyond slime working then it may not be good to drive the runflat either.

On the other hand...
I enjoy the peace of mind that my wife's car (ActiveHybrid5) has the run-flat tires. She can drive home safely and I'll deal with it the next day. I don't want her to wait for roadside assistance in the mean streets of Los Angeles.

Sigh...
I have said it before, and I'll say it again.
I LIKE THE RUN FLAT TIRES.
I am not Mario Andretti, and I don't care about carving corners at 90 mph.
I like that if I pick up a nail, I am not stranded with no spare in my diesel.
So thanks for the answers to my original question, and to everybody else, thanks but no thanks.

But if I had the runflats I would fix the tire with a nail I it by myself.
