window wiper wear dot.

Just replaced the wipers yesterday and noticed the sticker on each of them.
Box says it's a wear indicator and when it turns yellow it's time to replace. Never noticed this before but curious to see how this works out for timing. Attachment 292166 |
It's activated by UV exposure. After a certain amount of UV exposure it is supposed to turn color to indicate its time to replace the wiper blade.
So for cars that are parked in a garage instead of outdoors, it should last longer. Been around for years. I remember seeing this on a BMW I had in the late 90's. |
Nice.
Given the horrific weather in Toronto this year these could last me a while then:naughty: |
Unless you park indoors. even in bad weather there is significant UV hitting the car.
never noticed those
Me either, thanks for letting us know :y
My neighbor leaves their S550 outside. That dot is very yellowish now.
mine lives outdoors too :)
I certainly hope that when the dot turns yellow that its not time to replace because I just had the dealer install brand new ones less than 2 months ago and my car is parked in a garage at home and at work and the dot is bright yellow already.

Oh, well forget that crap then. I'm not paying $60.00 for new wipers every 2 to 3 months.

That sounds more reasonable. I think twice a year is reasonable. They are good wipers. Work really good.
Good to know. I thought it was just a cool logo, didn't know it was an indicator. Thanks for sharing.
The logo does kind of look cool but is just decorative. It is the little black round sticker that is kind of adjacent to the logo that serves as the indicator.
I can't find mine :(
Interesting. Looked at mine and cannot find any kind of dot or logo for that matter.
Have been on for 4.5 years and look to still be in good shape. In garage most of the time. No problems the few times has been in rain recently. Serviced once per year and dealer has never recommended replacement. Might be time at next service. Any other replacment blades or wipers out there? On my other vehicles I go to Advance Auto for wipers. They hardly sell just blades anymore. |
