Pre-Paid Maintenance - $1099
 

I just paid for my Pre-Paid maintenance i am going with 50K-60K-70K

$1099 - my service adviser called me if i want to get in before the price increase

I said yes and signed up but now i am having second thoughts

Is this just a glorified service or i will have major service competed and well worth the money

Currently i have 41k on and next service is due 48k i want to take in in just before the manufacture warranty complete check out


Please advise

seems like a waste of money to me but to each his own.

Sounds like you will get an A - B - A service plus a transmission flush.

Total probably going to cost around $1300 or so depending on the dealer so you are saving a couple hundred.

I was trying to see as well if it will be worth it. My car is still new and I have not even done the first service. I don't know yet. It's all a bunch of checks !

This is what I found out.

Service A:
This includes, oil change, fluid top ups, check of all lights, check cooling system strength, check brake fluid, check brake pad thickness(front and back), check of wipers, washer jets, inspect suspension,* inspect tires, adjust tire pressures, check main and starter batteries, and reset the service indicator.*

Service B:
* It includes everything from the “A” service plus the following.* Inspection of the belt, check for leaks on major components, check and replace if necessary the air filter, check seatbelts and anchor system, check suspension components for wear or damage, check steering components, check driveline components for wear or damage, replace cabin air filter, check body for corrosion, rotate tires(if applicable).

Reset of service indicator alone is worth $200-300... Just sayin

I bought the prepaid ... I don't regret it ... Paid $1000 for 3 services, saving a couple hundred dollars is not a big deal for me

Service B includes changing the brake fluid, very important. Brake fluid is hydroscopic, it absorbs moisture. The braking system includes ABS, stability, control, traction control/4Matic. There are many small passages an valves involved. You do not want any moisture or chance of moisture in the system.

Are these plans taxed? In my state labor is not taxed but parts are. I'm curious how they would tax a prepaid plan.

Most states do not tax these plans. But if your state does, you can always buy it over the phone from an out of state dealer.

I have to say I disagree with your choice of words here. That is what your dealer/SA wants to charge you for it. It isn't worth $5 IMO. The process takes less than 2 minutes using the buttons on the steering wheel. There are several videos posted here and on youtube for it if you are curious.

They are not doing a brake flush ... again it's just a bunch of checks. No parts involved aside of what's required for an oil change and cabin filters for service A/B. Btw this is for MB Canada.

At my dealer, the brake flush is listed separately from service B. I suppose that's because some folks may or may not need it at the same interval. But for my car it is due each 2/20k which basically makes it friends with the B service.

I'm a little thick sometimes :-) BYW, my dealer said they would charge me $100 after asking about an oil change only vs A svc.

Well, this is always up for argument.

I decided to take a 3-pack at $1089, today. It goes up to $1,400 on Sep 3. (And the dealer ~suggests~ that the individual charges for A and B services will go up proportionally.)

In my case, since I've just had an A service at 50,000 miles (from a prior service pack), I'm getting a B-A-B service.

The local independent garages offer services at about 10% less than MB dealer --- I opt for the discounted dealer service.

So it will be 89,999 miles when I'm faced with another service expense. Maybe get an S class then?<G>

NOTE: The contract is for "required" services. But careful examination says, "So what?"

Good choice. Not only do you have B-A-B coming up but also plugs and tranny service on your 2011. On my 2011 E550 I was expecting that to cost over $2k at dealer a la carte for the 60/70/80 services.

Required services just means they may hit you up for stuff like tire rotation and wiper blades that are part of the recommended, not required, services.
