First Service Timing

I know mercedes says 10k miles or 1 year for every service. What if i only have 5k miles when my car hits 1 year. Should I still get the service done at the 1 year mark or wait ? Can this void the powertrain warranty?
Please give your 2 cents

Also, are we still suppose to get the transmission service done like they originally said at the '4 year or 40k mile' mark ?

"Or" is the keyword here.

Get the service done.

follow the 'or' while you're under warranty. after that you can follow your gut (and wallet).

Do it when called for

You should get a reminder in your display when it gets close to 12 months OR 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. I put about 3,500 miles per year on mine and get it serviced every 12 months.
I would not take a chance on something going wrong and MB or dealer saying you didn't have it serviced on time. Part of the service is for them to do the required checks.
Transmission service depends on your model. Look in the maintenance manual or contact MB. You might talk to service advisor when you get to the 4 year mark if you are way below the 40,000 miles.

70K miles for tranny service covers MY 2014. (276 engine code). It's in your Maintenance Booklet.

2012 and newer with the M276 3.5l V6 engine has the 7G+ transmission that has 70k service interval.

2010-2011 has the older 7G transmission that required service every 40k miles.

I asked my service adviser about the time vs miles requirement. He mentioned for A/B service (oil changes mostly) it's every year or 10 k miles. For brake fluid flush its every 2 years regardless of miles, and for transmission, it's 40k or 70k miles (depending on which transmission you have) regardless of # of years. So it's very confusing to most consumers. To simplify, they just tell you 1yr/10k A service 2yr/20k B & brake service, 4yr/40k or 7yr/70k transmission service.

But he says for people who can keep track, its ok to hold off on transmission until 40k or 70k miles, and ok to do brake fluid every 2 years rather than 20k miles for folks that drive a lot.

for people that don't drive much (myself included. only 5k to 7k a year) just do an A or B service yearly to get oil changed. and Brake fluid every other year. Wait till 70k for transmission which in my case will be 10 to 12 years.

Won't wait that long

I do get the brake service every other year, although I think it is overkill since other makes go 6 years/50,00 or more miles with no brake service.
At 4 year service, advisor told me to hold off on transmission since I had only 15,000 miles on the car. Will have 20,000 when 5 years comes due. I will ask him again, but expect he will recommend transmission even with less than the 40K normal requirement for mine.
Not sure, but I think part of it is simply the age of the fluids and build up in the transmission. Also, cars with low mileages tend to have had a lot of stop and go and short distance driving.
Biggest thing is I don't want is to invalidate my extended warranty.

yea its just confusing. when i bought my car in April, they almost sold me on the 5 year $2,000 maintenance plan and i was only considering it because it covered the tranny flush. At the the time, they said the tranny needed to be done at 4 years or 40k miles. A couple of months later i heard stuff about the tranny not needing to be done until 70k miles.

I'll be getting the oil changed once a year. Will wait closer to 70k miles for the tranny. Yay!
