So I can assume the two posters above me were under warranty still? Or was it replaced on goodwill?

Steering wheel was not part of the trim replaced in mine but it still matches perfectly. However, my trim was replaced when the car was about a 1 1/2 years old.

Just to close out these earlier points. Mercedes has developed a replacement kit only for the walnut trim because the black ash veneer is not affected.

Just curious. Tinting the car windows will it help with trim fading issue?

UV is widely blamed for this issue. I imagine tinted windows might assist with that - from Google : "Tinted windows help block more UVA rays, but this depends on the type of tinting". It's also worth noting that the windows themselves should block some UV rays.

I'd also suggest that a good protectant might also help. I know the Armor All guys have been adverting their UV protection forever.

Tinted windows are a MUST in sunny climates. Look at any 10yr old car in FL or AZ that has tint from the beginning, vs. one that does not. The whole interior on the non-tint car is faded, cracked, etc.

Not about UV per se. It was a manufacturing defect by the supplier.
My car spends 85-90% of its time in a garage and trim faded anyway.
The UV certainly does not help though.

Rattles

Having trim replaced this weekend. Has anyone experienced any rattles after the replacement?

Retna7: IS that under warranty? if not, what's your cost?

El Cid: This is the key: It was a manufacturing defect that MB should replace. We only can hope that the replacement trim does not have the same problems.

No Sir, under warranty, though I have seen wood-grain kits on eBay Germany for sale at much lower prices than MB - even after shipping. Google translate works just fine BTW and many vendors in Deutschland are multi-lingual. GL!

Tint will help with UV, but if you don't clear tint the windshield you are not making a huge difference. Anytime you are driving or parked durng daylight hours there is going to be UV exposure. IIRC problem with wood was the supplier did not properly apply UV protection to the wood.

Mine was done under warranty by the dealer. No rattles whatsoever afterwards.

Had mine replaced a month ago by dealer. At first said not covered under ELW as it was "trim." I countered that should be as it was a known problem for which there is a TSB. It was covered.
This is one reason why establishing a good relationship with dealer is important.
Amazing how much better the dash looks now. I hadn't realized how much it had faded.

I'm having my trim replaced tomorrow. I'll also have the dealer take a look at the center storage unit doors because the leather has pulled away from the backing.

I picked up my car last Friday, and the new trim is much darker than the original and rattle free.

Gents, obviously this is a serious issue with this many posts. 2 questions:
- Anyone know where I can get my hands on the TSB that references this issue?
- Was it still happening in 2013's or had they corrected it by then?

My is fading badly and I need to get it taken care of.

Thanks

When will they figure out how to fix this? The first TSB on this problem was posted over 4 years ago and they still are having this problem.

I see this version 4 no longer mentions the cause of inadequate UV protection - lawyers probably had them take it out. Also, it's a nice touch that they underlined In the event of complaints. God forbid they step up and tell a customer their vehicle has a problem.

Interesting side note. People who ride in my car assume the wood trim is plastic and the MB Tex is leather. Maybe today's plastic wood does look as good or as realistic as real wood?

Thanks for the TSB. Anyone have a copy of PRIOR one that mentioned the UV protection failing?

I have the same issue, I just tinted my windows so no one could see inside and focus on the road ahead of me and I forgot about the faded trim!
